Radio Pakistan sets up channel at Skardu
Islamabad, June 11, 2012 (PPI-OT): Radio Pakistan’s community channel FM-93 has started its regular broadcasts in Skardu.
It is the first FM radio channel in the area‚ which will cater to the need of modern day broadcasts in the remotest region of the country. The test transmission of FM-93 Skardu had been continuing for the past sometime.
The new station will go a long way in promoting local culture‚ artists‚ music‚ languages‚ and national unity.
The programmes of FM-93 Skardu will be heard besides Skardu city in Satpara‚ Kachora‚ Hussainabad‚ Shangrilla‚ Gamba‚ and other surrounding areas within a radius of 40 kilometres.
Radio Pakistan has installed a 500-watt transmitter at Skardu‚ but plans to install a powerful transmitter in days to come.
Speaking in a programme of FM-93 Skardu‚ DG PBC Murtaza Solangi said the establishment of this FM channel will empower the people and provide them access to information and entertainment.
He said Radio Pakistan has so far set up two FM stations in Gilgit and Skardu and will further expand its FM network in Gilgit-Baltistan in days to come. He lauded the efforts of Radio Pakistan engineers and professionals for setting up the first FM channel in Skardu.
