Rawalpindi Seminar Discusses Alleged Demographic Shifts in Kashmir Under Indian Policies
Rawalpindi: A seminar titled “Erasure and resistance: Kashmir’s struggle against settler colonialism in the global South,” hosted by the Legal Forum for Kashmir (LFK) and AMBLEM School System, took place in Rawalpindi, addressing concerns over India’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) Chapter, presided over the event. Speakers at the seminar claimed that since the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, India has attempted to alter the demographics of the predominantly Muslim region, aiming to dilute its Muslim majority—a goal they assert India has failed to achieve.
The discussions highlighted that subsequent Indian legislation targeted minorities and promoted ideologies associated with RSS and Hindutva, which they argued went against the grain of international human rights norms. Safi contended that India’s actions in Kashmir represented a violation of international laws and a disregard for established human rights principles, portraying Jammu and Kashmir as erroneously integrated into Indian territory.
Lt. Col (r) Murtaza Ali Shah, Director of the AMBLEM School System, also spoke on the severe conditions faced by residents in the contested region, emphasizing the reported atrocities.
