Itanagar, December 23, 2012 (PPI-OT): The North-East Dialogue Forum (NEDF), a conglomeration of various civil society organisations, has demanded of the Indian Government to repeal draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act, from occupied Kashmir and North-eastern states of India.

The NEDF convenor for Manipur, U Nobokishor, addressing a press conference in Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) said that the AFSPA was a draconian Act and a sign of hatred. He said that the Justice Jeeven Reddy Commission, set up by the Indian government in 2004, and later the Second Administrative Reforms Commission, chaired by Congress leader, Veerappa Moily, had recommended the repeal of AFSPA.

He maintained that a lot of cases had been filed against the Indian Army personnel for their atrocities, but nothing happed to them as the AFSPA gave them immunity. Calling upon the people of Arunachal Pradesh to support their fight against AFSPA, the NEDF (Assam) Convenor, Ranjan K Barua, said, “We need to develop a strong force, make people aware of the grave situation that we are in, which will take us to our goal.”
