Islamabad: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Rana Sana Ullah, has reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing religious tolerance and safeguarding minority rights through the introduction of new legislation. He emphasized this commitment while chairing a ministerial committee meeting focused on finalizing the National Commission for Minorities Bill 2024 and reviewing policies on interfaith harmony and religious tolerance.

According to Radio Pakistan, Rana Sana Ullah highlighted the significant role that mosques play in Islamic society. He proposed that the interfaith harmony policy should include suggestions to utilize mosques as community centers to foster interfaith relationships. This approach aims to integrate religious spaces into the broader community, promoting understanding and cooperation among different faith groups.

Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, also addressed the meeting. He stressed the necessity of ensuring that the National Commission for Minorities remain
s independent and autonomous, free from ministerial influence. This independence is crucial for the commission to effectively uphold minority rights and foster religious tolerance without external pressures.

The committee has directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to present both the interfaith harmony and religious tolerance policies to the federal cabinet. This presentation will occur after the incorporation of recommendations from the subcommittee, paving the way for final approval and implementation.
