Jeddah: His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, received a telephone call today from His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The call included a comprehensive review of the distinguished relations between the Organization and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The two sides discussed mechanisms and means to revitalize and develop cooperation in various fields and to intensify bilateral coordination in order to strengthen the Organization's role in multilateral international action and advance reform efforts, which are among the most important programs of His Excellency the Secretary-General. According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the two sides also reviewed the preparations underway for the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, as well as the latest political and security developments in the region. They exchanged views on the challenges facing regional peace and security, emphasizing the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation to address the critical phase the region is going through. The Secretary-General thanked His Excellency the Minister for the successful mediation efforts he and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are undertaking to end the war ravaging the region. In a related context, the two sides discussed in detail the developments in the Jammu and Kashmir region, with the Pakistani Minister briefing the Secretary-General on the latest field and political developments there. For his part, the Secretary-General reiterated the Organization's principled and unwavering position in support of the legitimate rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the Organization's commitment to its resolutions adopted at summit and council of foreign ministers meetings, and the necessity of working towards achieving just and comprehensive peace and stability in the region in accordance with relev ant international resolutions, including those of the Security Council.
