This he said while chairing a meeting of the steering committee on Eradication of Polio at Civil Secretariat in Peshawar on Monday. Additional Chief Secretary, Attaullah, Secretary Finance, Home, Health, Commissioners, representatives of UNICEF, WHO and other high ranking officers also attended the meeting on this occasion.
Addressing the meeting Chief Secretary said that eradication of polio was not routine, rather it was a very important public health matter that needed utmost attention. He stressed the need for strengthening EPI.
He told the concerned authorities to initiate eradication campaign from the union council level with proper micro planning. He said that no stone should be left unturned to eradicate the polio virus from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas.
He asked the Health Department whether there was any shortage of funds in this respect? He said there was no dearth of money adding that the government would provide if there was any need. He also expressed unhappiness over reports of school teachers who had refused to work in polio eradication campaign adding that action should be taken against them.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary, in another meeting approved reconstruction of Excelsior College Swat at a cost of Rs. 147.44 million. He also accorded approval for schemes of PaRRSA and agriculture being carried out in Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Shangla and Buner districts.
