Shell Pakistan Reports Profit of PKR 6,450 million for Q3 2023 and Launches Sustainable Initiatives

Karachi, The Board of Directors of Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL) unveiled the company’s financial outcomes for the first nine months of 2023 on October 18th. Recording a robust profit after tax of PKR 6,450 million for the nine months concluded on September 30, 2023, SPL exhibited a significant rise from its PKR 2,864 million profit during the same span in 2022. The results also account for a one-time technical service fee relief obtained from Shell International Petroleum Company.

Furthermore, the company declared an interim cash dividend for the aforementioned period. Remaining committed to its core principles, SPL emphasized business excellence, the safety of its workforce, and environmental conservation.

During this period, SPL has been proactive in rolling out progressive initiatives. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) acknowledged industry-wide strides in refueling safety for two and three-wheelers, a movement spearheaded by SPL. Moreover, under its Mobility business, SPL introduced 19 new retail outlets. Simultaneously, the company launched the ‘Voice of Customer’ program, which enables patrons to offer instantaneous feedback via QR codes located at SPL’s facilities. This approach has already yielded over 30,000 responses, furnishing SPL with crucial insights to foster ongoing development.

In its pursuit of sustainable solutions, SPL took significant strides in plastic reusability. One initiative involved the recycling of discarded Shell lubricant containers to construct a plastic-infused road spanning 730 feet in length and 60 feet in width, adjacent to the Shell House in Karachi. This initiative not only serves SPL but also benefits the neighbouring communities. The second sustainable venture is a partnership with Shell Tameer alumni, Concept Loop, which focuses on transforming plastic waste into construction materials. This collaboration witnessed the installation of pavers at a Shell retail location in Karachi, a practice that may be replicated in forthcoming site renovations.

Further expanding its environmental efforts, SPL collaborated with local agriculturalists and the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) to convert farming waste into biochar, a substance known to enhance soil health. This initiative resulted in a significant 50% surge in land yield, positioning biochar technology as a viable method to curb emissions linked to agricultural waste burning.

SPL reiterated its commitment to maintaining operational prowess, ensuring safety standards, fortifying its financial standing, and continuing its dedication to societal responsibility.
