Islamabad: In a recent announcement, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, stated that swift legal proceedings will be undertaken for those arrested during the recent protests organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, Tarar outlined plans to establish an anti-riot force to address such disturbances.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Information Minister criticized PTI for allegedly spreading misinformation through social media, including the use of outdated and AI-generated images. Tarar highlighted that no evidence of casualties, as claimed by PTI, has been verified by hospitals such as PIMS and Polyclinic, which have not reported receiving any bodies.
Tarar accused the protesters of employing weapons against security personnel and causing damage to public property. He stated that the protest lacked public support and did not reflect the sentiments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or the nation at large.
The minister also addressed the country’s economic performance, noting improvements in key indicators. He reported that the stock market is at historic highs, remittances have surpassed $8.8 billion, inflation has decreased to 6.9 percent, and foreign exchange reserves have reached $11 billion. Tarar added that the opening of European routes for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is expected to boost its revenue and aid in its privatization efforts.
