Strong quake strikes Eastern Taiwan, Japan issues tsunami alert

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan’s southeastern coast today prompting a tsunami warning.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake hit at about 50 kilometers north of Taitung city at a depth of 10 kilometers.
