Foreign Secretary reiterates desire for peaceful, prosperous Afghanistan

Islamabad, March 28, 2023 (PPI-OT): Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan has reiterated Pakistan’s desire for a peaceful, prosperous, stable and connected Afghanistan. He was talking to Germany’s Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Erik Kurzweil who called on him in Islamabad Tuesday.

Pakistan, Malaysia agree to expand strategic partnership

Islamabad, March 28, 2023 (PPI-OT): Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to further expand and strengthen bilateral strategic partnership and enhance multi-dimensional cooperation. An understanding to this effect came at bilateral political consultations held in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The talks were co-chaired by Additional Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Mumtaz Zahra Baloch and Malaysia’s Deputy Secretary General Dato Norman Bin Muhammad.

Khalilzad doesn’t speak for US government: State Department

Islamabad, March 28, 2023 (PPI-OT): The United States has urged all sides in Pakistan to respect the rule of law and allow the people to democratically determine their country’s leadership in accordance with the constitution and law. Replying a question at his daily news briefing in Washington, US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said any implication of violence, and intimidation has no place in politics.

He said former envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, does not represent U.S. policy and statements given by him are in his personal capacity. The spokesman further said Mr. Khalilzad is a private citizen, and any social media activity or comments or tweets do not represent U.S. foreign policy.

Government making hectic efforts to provide relief to masses: NA told

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Assembly, which met at Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair, was informed that the government is making hectic efforts to provide relief to the common man keeping in view the current inflationary trends. Responding to the queries of the members during Question Hour in the House today, Minister of State for Finance Aisha Ghaus Pasha said we have enhanced the stipends under Benazir Income Support Program to support the deserving families.

She said, Ramadan package has also been given to provide essential commodities to the people at reduced rates. She said the government is also planning to provide targeted subsidy on petroleum products. The Minister of State said it is our effort to bring down the inflation which has both domestic and international factors. She said we need the cooperation of the provinces to check the price hike.

Aisha Ghaus Pasha said the government is also giving priority to the tax revenue mobilization in view of the current economic challenges and to reduce deficits. She said a committee has been formed to expedite tax cases pending in different courts. Responding to a question, the Minister of State said the government is committed to an interest-free economy. She said a committee has been constituted and deliberations are underway to prepare a transformational plan in this regard.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbassi told the House that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has received data of the houses destroyed in recent floods from the three provinces, while data from two federating units is still awaited.

He said minimum compensation for fully damaged houses has been revised up to five hundred thousand rupees and for partially damaged houses, it has been fixed at two hundred and fifty thousand rupees. Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, Minister of State for Interior Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju said FIA is taking steps to check human trafficking with the cooperation of international organizations.

He said the capacity building of the relevant departments is also being done to deal with this menace. Meanwhile, the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Amendment Bill, 2023 and the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Amendment Bill, 2023 were also laid before the House.

These were laid by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbassi. At the outset, newly elected MNA Muhammad Mohsin Leghari took oath of his office. Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath to him.

PTI Chief doesn’t want elections but selection again: Marriyum

Islamabad, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb says the PTI Chief Imran Khan is not interested in elections in the country, but he wants his selection as Prime Minister again. Addressing a news conference in Lahore, she said the people of Pakistan remember Imran Khan’s tenure as a ‘black chapter in the history of the country.

The information minister said the people are paying the price of Imran’s four year misrule which was marked by corruption, incompetence and inefficiency. She said the PML-N is the only party that revived the national economy in the past and it would again provide relief to the masses by overcoming inflation and unemployment.

Nation to celebrate Pakistan Day on Thursday

Islamabad, March 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Nation will celebrate Pakistan Day on Thursday with a renewed pledge to transform the country into a true Islamic and welfare state in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and to ensure progress, prosperity and a strong defence of the country.

The day is observed to commemorate the passage of historic Lahore Resolution on 23rd March in 1940, under which Muslims of the Sub-continent set the agenda of a separate homeland for themselves. National flag will be hoisted atop all major government buildings. The day will dawn with thirty-one-gun salute in the federal capital and twenty-one-gun salute in provincial capitals.

Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajar prayers for progress and prosperity of the country. The special feature of the day will be the spectacular and colourful Pakistan Day Military Parade of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, which will be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, where three wings of the armed forces will display their professional military skills.

It is pertinent to mention here that due to prevailing financial situation of the country, it has been decided to shorten the military parade. Radio Pakistan and PTV are broadcasting special programmes to highlight the significance of the day and pay tribute to the leaders of Pakistan Movement.

Marriyum condemns Zalmay Khalilzad’s latest tweets in favour of Imran Khan

Islamabad, March 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has strongly condemned former US Special Representative on Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad’s latest tweets in favour of PTI Chief Imran Khan.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Minister said Khalilzad’s tweets are part of the plan under which international lobbyists have got mobilized to start civil war in Pakistan. She said handlers of the foreign funding culprit Imran Khan are coming to light. The Minister said the origin of American conspiracy and the imported regime has been exposed.

She said the foreign funded puppet has committed worst human rights abuses during his four years rule, who has been labelled as media predator at the international level. Marriyum Aurangzeb said Imran Khan is responsible for the financial, political and diplomatic disaster in Pakistan.

Minister calls for enhanced Pak-Maldives collaboration in technical education

Islamabad, March 21, 2023 (PPI-OT): Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Rana Tanvir Hussain has called for enhanced collaboration between Pakistan and Maldives in the field of technical and vocational education. He was talking to Higher Education Minister of Maldives Dr. Ibrahim Hassan who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said a Memorandum of Understanding on Education and Professional Training to oversee, pursue and coordinate the collaboration between two countries should be formulated and implemented soon.

He said that Maldives National University has been connected with the leading Universities in Pakistan including LUMS, NUST, Arid Agricultural University and others. The visiting dignitary told Rana Tanveer Hussain that Maldivian students are pursuing their higher education especially MBBS in Pakistan’s medical institutes as 6-8 seats are offered to them annually.
