Pakistan Volleyball Team Qualifies for Quarter Finals of Asian Games 2023

The Pakistan volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory against South Korea in the knockout match of the play-off stage in the ongoing Asian Games 2023.

The sets were closely contested, with scores of 19-25, 22-25, and 21-25 ending in favor of the Men in Green, advancing them to the quarter-final stage.

The Green Shirts will now come face to face against Qatar in the much-anticipated quarter-final, scheduled to take place on October 24 in Hangzhou, China.

Last week, the national team secured a 3-0 victory against a strong Chinese Taipei in their second game to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.

In their opening game of the marquee event, the Green Shirts defeated the 58th-ranked Mongolia team in straight sets, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-20, on Tuesday.

The team moved to the top of the points table after defeating the 44th-ranked Chinese Taipei, who won Bronze in 2018 with scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-19.

The most notable accomplishment for Pakistan in Asian Games volleyball history occurred when they secured a third-place finish during the 1962 Jakarta.

India crush Sri Lanka to secure 8th Asia Cup title

India have won final of Asia Cup 2023 beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets at Colombo today [Sunday].

Batting first, Sri Lanka were all out at 50 runs in just 15.2 overs.

In reply, India achieved the victory target only in 6.1 overs without any loss.

India have won the title for eighth time.

For India, Ishan Kishan with 23 runs and Shubman Gill with 27 runs remained the main scorers.

Mohammed Siraj of India, who secured six wickets, was declared Player of the match, while Kuldeep Yadav remained Player of the Series.

This is the lowest total in the history of Asia Cup (ODI) history since the record was previously held by Bangladesh, who scored 87 runs against Pakistan back in 2000.

Saim Ayub Leads the Run-Scoring Charts in CPL

The emerging Pakistani batter, Saim Ayub, has been showcasing his batting skills and talent in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League 2023 in the West Indies.

While representing Guyana Amazon Warriors, the left-handed batter is currently the leading run-scorer in the 11th season, helping the team to sit atop the points table.

The 21-year-old batter has so far scored 304 runs in eight matches at an average of 43.42 and a strike rate of 149.01, including three half-centuries, with the highest score being 85.

Saim Ayub scored 84 runs off 53 balls against Jamaica Tallawahs, 58 runs off 35 balls against Barbados Royals, and 62 runs from 43 balls against Trinbago Knight Riders.

Guyana Amazon Warriors have won six out of eight matches while they will play their last two group stage games against Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals on September 17 and 18.

Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders are the only teams to have qualified for the play-off stage while they will also meet on September 21 in the play-off game.

Muhammad Shabbir wins 27th Chief of Naval Staff Open Golf Championship

Muhammad Shabbir won the title of 27th Chief of the Naval Staff Open Golf Championship.

In a statement, Pakistan Navy said, the closing and prize distribution ceremony of Championship was held at Karachi Golf Club.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff commended the untiring efforts of Karachi Golf Club staff and organizers for seamless conduct of the championship and congratulated the winners for their remarkable success.

Naval Chief lauded the high standards of the game that provided exciting and quality entertainment to the participants. He also appreciated the sponsors in supporting the game of golf and conduct of the championship.

The four day long Golf championship held from 13 – 16 September has become a major event in golfing circles since 1995.

The categories in the championship included professionals, amateurs, veterans, ladies and juniors. 72 holes matches were played for professionals, 54 holes for amateurs, 36 holes by KGC professionals, 18 holes for seniors and ladies whereas 9 holes matches were contested among juniors category ‘A’ and ‘B’ and veterans.

The event continues to be the highest prize money golf event of the country, wherein; more than 600 enthusiast golfers participated from across the country.

The ceremony was attended by various civil and military dignitaries including officers, organizers, sponsors, golfers and media fraternity.

Iftikhar Ahmed Tops List of Batting Average by Pakistanis in 2023

Iftikhar Ahmed has been one of the top performers in white-ball cricket for Pakistan for the last couple of years and has helped the side win many matches.

The right-handed batter has averaged more than even top-ranked Pakistani batters like Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, and Fakhar Zaman during the ongoing year 2023.

In 2023, the 33-year-old batter scored 348 runs in seven ODI innings at an average of 69.60 and a strike rate of 114.09, including one century and one half-century.

Wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Rizwan is second on the list, scoring 628 ODI runs in 15 innings at an average of 62.80 and a strike rate of 92.76, including six half-centuries.

All-format captain, Babar Azam is third on the list, scoring 745 runs in 15 innings at an average of 49.66 and a strike rate of 85.43, including two centuries and six half-centuries.

Left-handed opening batters, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq are fourth and fifth on the list, scoring 644 runs at an average of 46 and 448 runs at an average of 40.72, respectively.

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in their last match of the Super 4s stage of the Asia Cup 2023. The highly-anticipated encounter between the two sides will determine the second finalist of the competition, who will go on to face India on 17 September.

2nd Women ODI: South Africa beat Pakistan by six wickets


In the 2nd One Day International of three match series, South Africa women beat Pakistan women by six wickets in Karachi on Monday.



Batting first, Pakistan Women were all out at 168 runs in 44.2 overs.



In reply, South Africa women achieved the target in 34 overs for the loss of four wickets.



South Africa women leads the series by two-nil.



The third and last ODI will be played at the same venue on Thursday.

In the Super four stage of Asia Cup at Colombo, Pakistan is chasing a victory target of 357 runs against India.



Earlier, batting first India scored 356 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in allotted fifty overs.
