Tanveer Advocates for Structural Reforms in Livestock Sector to Aid Farmers

Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has emphasized the necessity for rationalizing taxes and implementing structural reforms in the livestock sector to support farmers and enhance affordability.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted during a pre-budget consultation in Islamabad that livestock constitutes nearly sixty percent of the agriculture sector and possesses substantial potential for both domestic nutrition and export markets. He pointed out that by softening the tax regime, there could be an increase in both production and revenue within the sector.

Rana Tanveer mentioned the possibility of reducing General Sales Tax on milk, with proposals such as pilot projects for pasteurization and the development of safe milk cities being taken under consideration. He stressed that improving milk quality and formalizing the sector are key priorities for future initiatives.
