Traders call for parking plazas in commercial centers to ease parking woes
Islamabad, March 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Traders Welfare Association, Jinnah Super Market, Islamabad visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its President Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi and stressed upon the CDA to construct parking plazas in commercial centers to ease the parking issues.
Addressing the delegation, Khalid Chaudhry, Acting President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that at the time of designing the local markets, proper thought was not given to cater to the future parking needs due to which lack of parking facilities in commercial centers has become a serious issue for traders and visitors. To remedy the situation, CDA should construct parking plazas in major commercial centers.
He said Planning Division of CDA had planned to construct parking plazas in Super Market, Jinnah Super, F-10 Markaz and Blue Area, but later this plan was shelved due to unknown reasons. He stressed that CDA should arrange parking plazas in markets and hand over the same to the concerned market unions for operation.
He said the current Chairman, Member Admin and Member Engineering of CDA are capable professionals and hoped that they would address all issues of business community on priority.
Speaking at the occasion, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi, President, Traders Welfare Association, Jinnah Super Market, Islamabad said that a 13 storey plaza has been constructed in Jinnah Super by eliminating a dispensary, but no sewerage and water supply arrangements have been made for such a big project. He stressed that CDA should arrange these facilities before the onset of summer season otherwise, the area would face serious problems.
He said CDA had planned to up-grade Jinnah Super Market, but despite lapse of about three years, no work has been undertaken for up-gradation. He said CDA should start development works in Jinnah Super to make it a model market.
He also expressed reservations over CDA’s move of outsourcing projects in spite of the fact that the civic body was facing no manpower shortage to complete such projects. He said traders should rise above the political affiliations and get united for protection of their rights.
Khalid Mehmood Secretary General, TWA Jinnah Super Market, Asif Ali President TWA I and T Centre G-10/4 and Mirza Muhammad Ali Vice President ICCI also spoke at the occasion and called for redress of traders’ problems on priority.
