Istanbul: The Mecca Defence Alliance has taken a significant step forward as Trkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish a secretariat under the pact, as announced by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. This development was confirmed during the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, held in Istanbul. According to TRTworld.com, Fidan shared details of the meeting on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, expressing gratitude to the officials involved. He emphasized the importance of this institutional decision for the region. The meeting was attended by foreign and defence ministers, along with the chiefs of general staff from the three countries, who convened to discuss the Mecca Defence Agreement's implementation. The joint statement issued after the meeting highlighted the commitment of Trkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia to further institutionalize their cooperation under the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defence. The countries aim to work together to achieve su stainable peace and stability in the region, focusing on de-escalation and restraint to encourage peaceful crisis resolution. A significant outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish a secretariat in Saudi Arabia to support the Mecca Agreement's initiatives. This secretariat will be led by a secretary general from Pakistan for an initial three-year term. The countries also plan to enhance their defence capabilities and armed forces' cohesion through joint activities, robust defence industry cooperation, and joint technology development and production. The institutional implementation of the Mecca Agreement is expected to contribute significantly to regional peace and stability, further solidifying the alliance between Trkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.
