Karachi, January 09, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the commercial attaches in Pakistan high commissions, embassies and consulates to make special efforts and promote exports of goods manufactured by the small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the countries they represent Pakistan.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said we have requested the commercial counselors and attaches in many countries to specially promote SME wares. The SME exporters need the help and support of the officers and with a little extra effort of the attaches the SMEs will be able to increase their exports substantially.

UNISAME is pleased to state that the SMEs in Pakistan are manufacturing goods of international standards and need encouragement. The exportable goods have become competitive due to reduction in freight rates and logistics because of fall in oil prices. Secondly the cost of production has also become less due to lowered fuel charges.

UNISAME stated that it is the best time for the SMEs to sell their goods in international markets and urged the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to push the commercial attaches in different countries to take steps to promote the SME exporters.

Thaver said that UNISAME has sent messages to the trade offices requesting them to promote the exports of foodstuffs, textiles and made ups, light engineering, electrical goods, surgical, sports, leather goods and footwear by displaying the goods in their trade offices, on the internet and personal visits to the importers in their countries.

He also requested them to personally visit the chamber of commerce and industry in their respective countries and highlight the goods manufactured by the SMEs.

The union has also called upon the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to co-ordinate with TDAP and the trade offices abroad and circulate the list of items manufactured in Pakistan by the SMEs. In fact SMEDA needs to display the products made by SMEs on their website for easy access to information and particulars of the SME units.
