United States ouster from the region possible: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor
Lahore: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the expulsion of America from the region is possible and Pakistan, Iran and Turkey will have to extend cooperation to Russia and China.
He was addressing the participants of seminar on “Pak-US Relations: Key Challenges” in the Seminar Hall of Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) here on Thursday. Renowned analyst Mowahid Hussain Syed was the keynote speaker while Brigadier Syed Ghazanfar Ali also addressed on the occasion. Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javed, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said after the end of communism, terrorism began. Americans are mature but there were some other hands in decisions of America government. He said some influential and rich families had the hold of American Congress, media and other institutions and they had the plan of one world government. “These people neither let publish any book against them nor media release any news against them,” he added. The vice-chancellor said we should be aware of our problems and there was bigger responsibility on civil society and they should come forward because time was too short.
Mowahid Hussain Shah said we should also demand in response of America’s ‘Do More’ but unfortunately we had never presented counter demands to US. He said we should demand America to solve Kashmir dispute. There were resolutions in the United Nations (UN) in this regard but we could not get them implemented on it due to our own illegibility. America doesn’t want to help Pakistan in Kashmir issue. The second demand should be the resolution of Palestine issue. He said there was a law of ‘might is right’ and everyone has to fight for its respect. He said the dream of occupying Palestine was the root cause of militancy.
Israel takes Pakistan as an enemy and had bad eye on Pakistani nukes, he added. Mowahid Hussain said 57 Muslim countries had a lot of resources but even they did not have single permanent seat in Security Council of United Nations. We should recommend Indonesia as permanent member of UN Security Council. Turkey banned Hijab for getting membership of European Union but western countries didn’t want Turkey’s presence in European Union at any cost. The attitude of Muslim leaders, their corruption and mindset were the causes of militancy. Shah Faisal had the credit of establishing Islamic Summit and the present period also demands of holding conference of Islamic countries in Lahore.
He said Islamic history proved that Muslims always were victorious even after facing severe circumstances. Mowahid Hussain said it was unfortunate to have hope from the present setup of Muslim world even their activities were dangerous for the Ummah. We should review our weaknesses and the culture, which is not benefiting us. We should ensure the implementation of law in our institutions. Our leaders have disappointed the youth. He asked the youngster to express their thoughts with no fear.
Brigd (R) Syed Ghazanfar Ali said Pakistan’s policy-makers needed to chart out a long-term policy towards US keeping in view the evolving regional security environment and US’s strategic goals. He said since peace between Pakistan and US was a strategic imperative element of our over-all US policy. He further said unfortunately, in the past our US policy had reflected a woeful lack of comprehension of US’s strategic goals and foreign policy objective as well as disregard of the compulsions of the regional and international security environment. Consequently, our policies towards US have swung like a pendulum from one extreme to the other instead of showing steadiness of direction and resoluteness of purpose. In the end, CSAS Director Dr Umbreen Javed thanked the guests.
