United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton telephones Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani
Islamabad: US Secretary of State Ms. Hillary Clinton rang up Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani about half an hour earlier and held extensive discussions on Pakistan – US relations. She appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to eradicate terrorism and assured complete US support. She referred to her last conversation with the Prime Minister on 6th of June as very good and useful.
Both the leaders expressed determination that Al-Qaeda had to be dismantled, disrupted and defeated for which both countries should work together. The Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani mentioned that it is imperative to make distinction between the Talbaan and Al-Qaeda which would help to overcome the threat.
Both the leaders expressed satisfaction over the establishment of Joint Task Force between the respective Intelligence Agencies of the two countries which would facilitate information sharing and coordination. Ms. Hillary Clinton informed that CIA Chief would shortly be visiting Pakistan and hold talks for cooperation in the relevant fields.
Ms. Hillary Clinton appreciated the Prime Minister that her Deputy Secretary of State Mr. Nides who is incharge of foreign economic assistance, would be coming to Pakistan on 14th and 15th of this month to hold detailed discussions on economic related matter. The Nides calling on the President, the Prime Minister, he would specifically be meeting the Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.
The Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani appreciated the understanding of US leadership for creating more political space to help generate positive public opinion and to work together to achieve the common objective of defeating extremism and terrorism. The Prime Minister informed Ms. Hillary Clinton that there was complete consensus in Pakistan to work together with the US and other international partners to defeat terrorism in the larger interest of global peace and prosperity.
Both the leaders agreed that further in depth discussions and consultations in all the fields between the two countries at appropriate level would continue in order to develop better understanding and cooperation.
