We are carrying out the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to make Pakistan a welfare state, says Madam Farzana Raja
Rawalpindi: Federal Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Madam Farzana Raja has said that BISP is striving to make Pakistan a welfare state which was mission of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. While paying homage to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, she said that the great daughter of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had scarified her life for the rights of the people and democracy. Madam Farzana Raja said this while talking to the representatives of media after laying floral wreath and offering Fateha at the place of martyrdom of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto here at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi.
Madam Farzana Raja said that BISP is the largest and most successful programme in the social sector in South Asia and after the completion of ongoing poverty survey, the number of beneficiary families of BISP would rise up to 7 million. She said that keeping in view the performance of BISP, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has issued the directives for further extension of the programme.
She said that one million children of the BISP’s beneficiary families would be sent to school as a first phase of the conditional cash transfer scheme regarding promotion of education. Under the directions of President Asif Ali Zardari, she said, the mechanism of Benazir Smart Card is being spread throughout Pakistan as an alternate and most effective and transparent delivery mechanism for the beneficiary families.
Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP said that 25 million households have so far been surveyed during nationwide poverty survey and a 10 years plan is being chalked out with the help of the comprehensive data gathered through this process. A comprehensive plan has been devised to impart free education, technical training and provide livelihood opportunities to the persons with disabilities present in the beneficiary families.
Madam Farzana Raja said that it is a matter of great pride for us that we have achieved a success during a short span of three years whereas the other nations took 20 years to achieve the same level of success. She said that so far more than Rs. 88 billions have been distributed among the BISP beneficiary families and through initiatives like Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e- Rozgar and Life insurance, we have laid down the foundations of a socio-economic revolution in society.
