Work on damaged Transmission Lines is being done on War Footing in Muzaffargarh
Lahore, July 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): Thunderstorm and heavy rains affected the transmission lines of Muzaffargarh power plant by cutting the 1750 MW in national grid, However 1000 MW will be brought back to the system by today evening, stated by Managing Director National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDCL) Mr Naveed Ismail in a press conference here at WAPDA House, Lahore.
Talking about the unprecedented damage occurred due to heavy rain and thunderstorm, 6 pylons of 500 kv transmission line were uprooted resultantly affected the 220 kv transmission line passing underneath, which further damaged 13 towers on same transmission line. However, NTDCL immediately moblised the senior officials and engineers for the restoration of transmission line on war footing. All available resources including cranes, men and material alongwith other equipment has been moved to the site from all over the country.
While briefing the damages, Naveed Ismail said AES Lalpir and Pak Gen 700 MW, Muzaffargarh 800 MW and two units of Guddu were also went out of the national grid. However, the accumulated shortfall of 1750 MW affected the country.
He ensured that 1000 MW will be back in system by today evening whereas 350 MW of Lalpir power plant will be added by tomorrow morning. Talking about the Pak Gen, he said that the windstorm has affected transmission lines very badly and will take another two days for its recovery.
Naveed Ismail also informed about the CHASHNUP I and II (650 MW) which were closed due to technical fault few days back, have also started functioning since morning. MD NTDCL Naveed Ismail has regretted the inconvenience faced by the masses and requested for their cooperation by reducing their electricity load to minimum level.
