Zafar Akbar Butt barred from visiting jails in Jammu

Jammu, December 19, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference leader and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Front, Zafar Akbar Butt has denounced India and its authorities for not allowing him to visit jails in Jammu. A spokesman for the JKSM, in a statement in Jammu said that Zafar Akbar Butt and the party workers had sought the permission from the authorities to visit the jails, but his request was turned down in sheer violation of basic human rights.

“The detainees are facing wrath of the authorities which is against the jail manual and principals laid by UNO,” he added. Expressing his anxiety over the pitiable conditions of detainees in Kathuwa, Hira Nagar, Amphla, Kotbalwal and Udhampur jails Zafar Akbar said that most of the detainees were innocent students and had been arrested for no fault of theirs.

A large number of the detainees have completed their jail term and authorities are not releasing them or re-arrest them under draconian, Public Safety Act, he said. Zafar Akbar Butt and the party workers from Jammu visited the Ustad Mohhala, Urdu Bazar, Gujjar Nagar, Jolata Mohalla, Bathandi in Jammu and visited the affected families of those, whose near and dear ones were missing or fell victim to Indian state terrorism. Zafar Akbar Butt also visited the martyrs’ graveyard at Gujjar Nagar and offered fateha for the departed souls.
