Indus Highway’s restoration underway after devastating floods

Islamabad, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):National Highway Authority (NHA) has been working on a number of projects relating to roads and bridge construction at the affected sections of the Indus Highway. According to NHA officials, various sections of the Indus Highway spanning 281 kilometres were severely damaged during the recent heavy rains and floods.

Repair and restoration work on a three kilometre road section near Sehwan has almost been completed and traffic temporarily restored. Three new bridges are also being proposed near Sehwan to address the damage caused by the floods. The Authority has also taken various measures to restore the traffic flow including construction of protection embankments, de-watering of flood water from the road, and removal of earthen bunds at Dadu and Mehar Bypass.

Restoration works have been completed for the Sehwan to Bhan Saeedabad stretch from 140 to 143 km and the Johi Branch to Mehar stretch from 218 to 242 km. Upcoming periodic maintenance works for the Indus Highway also include the functional overlay of Sehewan-Baubak, Bhan Saeedabad-Khudaabad, Kotri – Majhand – Jamshoro, Allahabad-Dadu.

Islamabad, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal says democratic leaders always practice dialogue rather than resorting to violence. Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Monday, he said PTI Chief Imran Khan has been disseminating hate and creating chaos in the country.

He said PTI villains attacked institutions including judiciary and security forces in Islamabad and Lahore. Ahsan Iqbal requested the Supreme Court to take notice of the violence and ransacking at the Judicial Complex in Islamabad by the PTI crooks. He said Imran Khan wants bloodshed and anarchy in the country and is responsible for prevailing economic situation.

He said a conspiracy is being hatched to destabilize the state through attacking the state institutions. The Minister said strict action will be taken against those who took law into their hands in Lahore and attacked police and other law enforcing agencies. Replying to a question pertaining to the deal with International Monetary Fund, he said Imran Khan sabotaged inking deal with the IMF, but due to the hectic efforts of the incumbent government, a good news in this connection will be shared with the nation soon.

95% of oral diseases can be prevented by cleaning mouth regularly: President

Islamabad, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):President Dr. Arif Alvi has recommended everyone to brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes to help prevent dental issues. In a video message on World Oral Health Day, the President said that 95 percent of oral diseases can be prevented by cleaning the mouth regularly. He urged the people to follow these golden Islamic principles as these are completely free and there is no need for any aid for it.

Challenges faced by QAU require immediate attention: Tanveer

Islamabad, March 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer says the challenges faced by Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) require immediate attention. This was expressed by the Minister during a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the QAU Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar who called on him in Islamabad on Monday.

The minister said that the issues of QAU are sensitive and need to be delicately handled. He said the QAU is a prestigious university and future of the students is the top most priority. He said that no institution can thrive without accountability. He highlighted that thorough accountability plays a vital role in efficient and effective management. He assured Dr. Niaz of complete cooperation while highlighting his high expectations. Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar appreciated the trust put in him by the minister. He assured the education minister that all the ongoing challenges of QAU will be addressed immediately.

Police given ‘free hand’ to establish writ of state: CM Naqvi

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi says the government has now given free-hand to police force to establish writ of state at all cost if it is attacked again.

Talking to media in Lahore, he said the writ of government will be enforced at any cost.

He announce financial compensation worth one lac rupee for injured police personnel and five lac for severely injured in recent violent clashes outside Zaman Park Lahore.

Mohsin Naqvi said a Joint Investigation Team has been formed regarding these clashes.

Sindh Governor, Portugal’s Ambassador discuss bilateral trade, economic ties

Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan Manuel Freserico Pinheiro Da Silva called on Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori in Karachi on Monday.

During the meeting, they discussed increase in bilateral trade and economic relations, investment opportunities available in the province, rehabilitation of flood affectees, exchange of delegations and other issues.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sindh said Pak-Portugal relations are strengthened with passage of time and employment opportunities would be increased with the investment of Portugal in the province.

On his part, the Portugal ambassador said investors from his country are keen on investment in Sindh.
