KP, Balochistan Assemblies to meet on Wednesday

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali has summoned the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session on Wednesday at 11:00 am.

Newly elected MPAs will take oath during the session.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Assembly’s session for the oath-taking of the newly elected MPAs has also been summoned on Wednesday.

Munir Akram included among 14 influential diplomats, officials

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has been included among 14 influential diplomats and officials at the U.N. in the ‘Power List’ published by a noted news and analysis website.

In introducing Ambassador Akram, the website said he is one of Pakistan’s influential diplomats who is currently serving his second term at the U.N. in New York, after an earlier posting from 2002 to 2008.

It also referred to his stint as president of the UN’s key Economic and Social Council, using the time to press his concept of a new international system for development finance.

Maryam Nawaz sworn in as first-ever female CM of Punjab

The newly-elected first ever female Chief Minister of the Punjab Maryam Nawaz has taken the oath of her office at the Governor’s House in Lahore today.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman administered the oath.

On this occasion, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PML-N President Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, members of Punjab Assembly, along with a large number of party leaders and workers were present.

Earlier, during the session of the provincial assembly held in Lahore today, Maryam Nawaz of Pakistan Muslim League-N was elected as the first ever woman Chief Minister of Punjab.

She secured two hundred twenty votes.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan announced the result of the voting process.

Sunni Ittehad Council had fielded Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan as its candidate. However, the Council boycotted the entire electoral process.

Speaking in the House after her election, newly elected Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced various measures to provide relief to common man.

z said she is the Chief Minister of the entire province, irrespective of party affiliation.

She said that doors of her chamber will always remain open even for the Opposition members as well.

She also thanked the party leadership including Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif and allied parties for showing confidence in her.

The Chief Minister said that she has no sentiment of vendetta against any political opponent.

She said that she wants to see Punjab as a successful business hub.

IT exports increased by 13% in last 30 days: Saif

Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology Dr. Umar Saif says IT exports have seen a steady increase over the past five months, with a notable thirteen percent surge observed in the last 30 days.

In an interview with a private news channel, he expressed confidence that the country may soon achieve its target of reaching ten billion dollars in IT exports.

Acknowledging the vital role of the IT industry in the national economy, Dr. Umar Saif emphasized the importance of providing ample incentives, facilities, and rewards to support its growth.

He said over the past five months, various initiatives have been implemented to boost IT exports and facilitate industry growth.

Highlighting Pakistan’s strong presence in the global online freelancing market, the Minister said that the country boasts over one point five million registered freelancers, ranking second globally after the United States.

Syed Murad Ali Shah re-elected Sindh CM for third term

Pakistan Peoples Party nominated candidate Syed Murad Ali Shah has been elected as the Chief Minister of Sindh for a third time. He is the 25th elected Chief Minister of Sindh.

Announcing the results, the Speaker of Sindh Assembly Syed Owais Qadir Shah informed the House that Syed Murad Ali secured 112 votes out of 148 votes while his rival MQM nominated candidate Ali Khursheedi secured 36 votes.

It is the first time that a Chief Minister has been elected in Sindh with a huge margin of 112 votes.

Addressing the House after the election, leaders of PPP and MQM congratulated Syed Murad Ali Shah for his election.

They were of the view that Syed Murad Shah deserved this win based on his performance in his last two tenures especially during COVID and the floods.

Meanwhile, Governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori will take the oath of newly elected Chief Minister of the Province tomorrow. According to the spokesman of the Governor, the oath taking ceremony will be held at the Governor House at six in the evening

PSL9: Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 8 runs

In the Pakistan Super League, Peshawar Zalmi have defeated Islamabad United by 8 runs in Lahore tonight.

Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi scored 201 runs for loss of 5 wickets in stipulated 20 overs.

Chasing a victory target of 202 runs, Islamabad United could score only 193 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
