NDMA issues weather alert of rains, snowfall from next week

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued directives to all relevant department to remain alert in wake of rains and snowfall in upper parts of the country from next week.

According to a weather alert, rains with snowfall have been forecast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galyat and Nathia Gali, causing blockade of roads and landsliding.

The NDMA has also instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to remain alert and ensure evacuation of people and tourists from the affected areas.

The PDMA has also been directed to ensure deployment of heavy machinery rescue teams in the areas that could be hit land sliding and flashfloods.

Free medical camp organized in Bahawalnagar by Pak Rangers Punjab

A free medical camp was organized in Bahawalnagar area under the auspices of Pakistan Rangers Punjab.

More than four hundred deserving people including women and children were provided treatment facilities free of cost.

Besides, conducting medical tests, medicines were also provided free of cost to the patients.

Local people and patients in the camp appreciated the free medical camp organized by Punjab Rangers in the area and asked the security forces to continue provision of these kinds of facilities.

CM Punjab directs to take precautionary measures following rainfall forecast

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all related departments to take precautionary measures in the wake of forecast about thunderous rainfall and increase in cold in the province from 11th to 14th of this month.

She also directed PDMA and Rescue 1122 to keep her updated regarding the measures being taken.

Maryam Nawaz said that public should be made aware in advance about the situation, through electronic and social media besides the mobile alerts service. She also directed to take effective measures for protection of cattle in rural areas.

US embassy empowers 150 women to launch entrepreneurial journeys

US Embassy has launched the fourth Pakistan cohort of its ‘Academy for Women Entrepreneurs’ program at the Lincoln Reading Lounge in Islamabad.

Minister Counselor for Public Affairs Bettina Malone launched this year’s cohort of the ‘Academy for Women Entrepreneurs’ which is set to empower 150 participants from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi.

‘Academy for Women Entrepreneurs’ program is an entrepreneurship program that includes peer-to-peer learning and local mentorship, to help participants build their own businesses and seek innovative scaling opportunities

14th Presidential election being held today

Presidential election is being held today to elect the 14th President of Pakistan for next five years.

Asif Ali Zardari, the joint candidate of PPP and the PML-N, and Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai are vying for the office of President.

The President is elected by an electoral college comprising members of the Senate, National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies.

Voting is held through a secret ballot.

A joint session of the parliament will be held at the parliament house in Islamabad today in which the members of National Assembly and the Senate will exercise their right to vote.

Similarly, the provincial assemblies will also hold their sessions today for the election.

Polling will begin at ten am and continue till 4:00 p.m.

Pakistan calls for full, non-discriminatory implementation of CWC

Pakistan has called for the full, effective and non-discriminatory implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Addressing the Executive Council of Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Hague, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Ambassador Suljuk Mustansar Tarar said Pakistan has a robust national implementation mechanism for Chemical Weapons Convention.

Suljuk Mustansar Tarar mentioned the continuing tragic situation in Gaza and reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

Pak Envoy, UN chief discuss preparations for forthcoming Summit of Future

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram called on the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York and discussed the preparations for the forthcoming Summit of the Future.

They hoped the Summit outcome would help in responding to the priority needs of the developing countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Munir Akram commended the UN Secretary General’s commitment to the sustainable development goals (SGDs) agenda and said that his leadership would be pivotal in shaping win-win outcomes.

Ambassador Akram also handed over a booklet to the UN Secretary General that featured the contribution of Pakistani female peacekeepers towards the establishment and maintenance of global peace and security under the umbrella of the United Nations.
