Sarhad University Expands Its Horizons with the Launch of Islamabad Campus

Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, Peshawar, is pleased to announce the establishment of its Islamabad Campus. Founded in 2001 and recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), Sarhad University has consistently delivered on its promise of academic excellence. With 14 Convocations to date, the institution has empowered over 40,000 alumni, many of whom have made significant contributions globally.

Education Minister underlines need of character building of youth


Caretaker Minister for Federal Education Madad Ali Sindhi has stressed the need to increase efforts to inculcate Seerat-ul-Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in youth and holding of conferences in this regard in universities.



He was talking to President of International Islamic University Professor Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi who called on him in Islamabad on Monday.



The Minister said International Islamic University should take the lead on this and ensure that such institutions not only focus on academic education but also focus on character building.



The Minister was informed that the Imam-e-Kaabah Sheikh Mahir Al Muaiqly has been invited to Pakistan and that University will request him to grace the occasion of Seerat Ul Nabi (PBUM) conference as well.

Pakistan and China will establish a joint research center in Islamabad in October to promote the study of Earth sciences and sci-tech exchanges.


This was informed by the official in charge of the center’s preparatory work, Hong Tianhua during the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services.



He said this center will be a high-level scientific and technological innovation platform between the two countries to promote sci-tech cooperation and talent cultivation.



The center will carry out joint research in four areas, including natural disaster and risk management; geological structures and tectonic activities; climate change and environmental effects; and resources, environment, and green development.

LUMS Welcomes 1,200 Students for Orientation 2023

LUMS recently welcomed a diverse cohort of 1,200 students from cities, towns, and villages across Pakistan at its Orientation. The Orientation featured a series of engaging events designed to help students transition to university life.

Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, LUMS welcoming the new batch, said: “The LUMS community is committed to foster an environment where you can explore your passions, engage with exceptional faculty and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds. Your time here is about immersing yourself in all aspects of university life, growing as an individual and becoming a responsible and innovative leader.”

Orientation 2023 provided each student with over 30 opportunities to engage and learn including online resources, Zoom sessions, interactive group discussions, and engaging social activities.

During these sessions, the new students were guided on their first-semester courses, the LUMS Code of Conduct, and the importance of academic integrity. Other panels covered topics like personal effectiveness and social maturity, and safety for scientists and engineers, etc.

This academic programming was complemented by sports competitions, a scavenger hunt, a memorable batch photo and other activities meant to build camaraderie and a sense of belonging among the new students and the LUMS community. Orientation also featured panel sessions with notable alumni from different fields of life who provided insights on career growth and advice on how to maximise learning.

Over 700 sessions for 1,200 students across 12 days were made possible by more than 15 campus offices collaborating with approximately 350 students playing various roles: the Student Orientation Committee, Orientation Coaches, Deputies and PALss (Peer Ambassador at LUMS for Social Support). After Orientation, PALss continue to mentor students throughout the academic year to ensure the new students’ smooth transition at the University.

Commenting on the Orientation programme, Ms. Fatima Umar, Project Lead, Office of Student Affairs (OSA) said: “With a strong focus on both the academic and the social climate of the campus, the Orientation team is confident that incoming students have meaningful tools to navigate their first year at LUMS.”

Reflecting on the success of the programme, Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost, added: “LUMS Orientation transcends mere campus orientation; it symbolises a rite of passage. In the current year, the exceptional enthusiasm and profound sense of community has set an inspiring tone for the academic journey ahead.”

Rawalpindi Announces Holiday for All Schools, Colleges and Universities

In an official announcement, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in Rawalpindi has declared that all educational institutions within the municipal limits of Tehsil Rawalpindi, excluding the Cantonment areas, will be closed tomorrow, on 7 September 2023 (Thursday). This decision comes in light of the upcoming Chehlum Procession.

The notification, issued by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, cites the need to maintain security and order during the religious procession as the reason for the temporary closure. This closure encompasses both government and private universities, colleges, and schools.

Furthermore, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner has requested the Director of Information to ensure widespread dissemination of this information through electronic and print media. The Private Schools Association in Rawalpindi has been similarly notified.

This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety and security of students and faculty during the Chehlum Procession, and normal educational activities are expected to resume on the following day, 8 September 2023.

Private School Principal and Teacher Smash Student’s Skull in Lahore

In a shocking incident in the Samanabad area of Lahore, a school principal and a teacher are alleged to have brutally tortured a student, resulting in a fractured skull. The victim was a student at Iqra Rozatul Atfal School Samanabad.

According to the local police, the horrifying incident unfolded when the principal and the teacher subjected the student to physical abuse. The teacher reportedly seized the student and forcefully propelled him, causing his head to collide with a ceiling fan. This impact resulted in a severe fracture to the child’s skull, raising concerns about potential brain damage.

Disturbingly, instead of promptly notifying Faizan’s parents about the grave situation, the school’s management transferred him to a hospital. It was only at the insistence of his father that a formal complaint was registered against the school administration.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, the accused principal and teacher remain at large, adding to the distress of the victim’s family. The incident has ignited outrage and demands for swift justice, with local authorities intensifying efforts to apprehend the alleged culprits.

Madad Ali Sindhi for enhancing Pak-Turkiye cooperation in education, culture

Caretaker Minister for Education and Professional Training, Madad Ali Sindhi has called for enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye in the fields of culture and education.

He was addressing an event titled ‘One Hundred Years of Magnitude: Pak-Turk Affinity, in Islamabad.

The minister said the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Turkiye are an unprecedented manifestation of brotherhood and love, which cannot be compared.

Turkish Ambassador, Prof Dr Mehmet Pacaci, who was guest of honor on the occasion, said Turkiye values and respects the evergreen relationship with Pakistan.

He stressed the need to increase cooperation between the two countries in education, health, tourism, and other matters of mutual interest.
