Ethiopian Ambassador Praises Pakistan’s Economic Initiative

ISLAMABAD: The Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Jemal Bekar Abdula, has expressed admiration for the ‘Uraan Pakistan’ initiative, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth and prosperity. The commendation was made during a meeting with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, where both parties explored avenues for enhanced trade and investment cooperation.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Abdula emphasized the transformative changes in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party. The Ambassador detailed significant reforms across political, economic, and social sectors that have contributed to Ethiopia’s burgeoning democracy and robust economic growth. These reforms have led to the development of the Home Grown Economic Reforms, targeting macroeconomic stability, increased domestic production, and foreign investment, subsequently boosting job creation.

In the discussion, Dr. Abdula indicated that Ethiopia and Pakistan could benefit from each other’s experiences by fostering deeper economic cooperation. Highlighting the potential for strengthened trade relations, he invited Minister Iqbal to attend the Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan in Addis Ababa, scheduled for May 2025.

Minister Iqbal reciprocated the sentiments, expressing eagerness to visit Ethiopia and acknowledging the growing bilateral ties, reinforced by the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and the commencement of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Pakistan. He noted these developments as critical steps towards enhancing official and business exchanges between the two nations.
