NDMA Issues Flash Flood Warning for Balochistan and DG Khan; Alerts for High Water Flow in River Kabul

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flash flood alert for the hill torrents and nullahs of Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan), with expectations of high to very high water levels that could damage infrastructure. Concurrently, significant rainfall in the catchment areas is predicted to cause medium to high flooding in the River Kabul, particularly affecting Nowshera and its tributaries.

According to Press Information Department, the regions likely to be impacted in Balochistan include the Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad, and Sibbi divisions, where flash flooding may severely affect local communities and infrastructure. In DG Khan, similar conditions are anticipated, posing threats to nearby villages and settlements. Residents near these areas, especially along the flood plains, are at heightened risk.

The NDMA has also highlighted potential flooding in Nowshera due to medium to high flows in the River Kabul, spurred by a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) event in Chitral that has increased water levels in the Panjkora River. The authority has advised the population at risk to avoid floodwaters and seek safer locations, using alternative routes to circumvent flood-prone areas.

In response to these threats, the NDMA has directed relevant departments to implement necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the expected floods. The agency has also promoted its Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, which is available on major mobile platforms to provide the public with timely alerts, advisories, and safety guidelines.
