Riyadh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed from Riyadh, headed for Baku, Azerbaijan, after his attendance at the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. At the International Royal Terminal in Riyadh, the Prime Minister was seen off by Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Farooq, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al Maliki, and other diplomatic staff.
According to Radio Pakistan, during his visit to Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister will take part in the Climate Action Summit of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). He is also set to host the Climate Finance Round-table Conference, which will see participation from global leaders.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes attending the high-level event “Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers,” organized by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, which will focus on preserving glaciers. Additionally, he will participate in “Delivering Early Warning for All an
d Addressing Extreme Heat,” an event organized by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres aimed at addressing the challenges posed by rising global temperatures.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also attend a dinner hosted by the President of Azerbaijan in honor of the global leaders present at the Summit. This trip will include bilateral meetings with various world leaders attending COP29 to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and tackling the climate challenges facing Pakistan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the Prime Minister on this significant diplomatic visit.
