Innovation in Natural, Clean Ingredients Ushers in Sensegen

Beautiful biotechnology meets the science of good sense

Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Feb. 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sensegen,  southern California’s new taste, smell, and beauty business, enters the ingredient market as the first 100% biotechnology-based solution provider serving these markets. Emerging as The Science of Good Sense™, Sensegen’s brand launch marks an 18-month incubation previously under the name Blue California Flavors and Fragrances.

“We’re charting our course in clean and sustainable taste, smell, and beauty in a new and exciting way,” said Kathy Oglesby, chief value creation officer. “Under one roof, perfumers, flavorists, biologists, and chemists are working together, inspired by nature, and disciplined by science.”

Collaborating in their modern and well-equipped Creative Center, the designers are market-focused on biotechnology-based ingredient solutions to design and customize clean-label collections. The Creative Center is full service and state-of-the-art in capability, housing flavor, fragrance, cosmetic, and personal care creation teams supported by analytical chemistry, applications development, and sensory science teams.

Taste, smell, and beauty brands are encouraged to peruse Sensegen’s new website sensegen.com to gain insight into Sensegen’s collections, provenance, philosophy, biobased technology, sensible ingredient innovation process, transparent business practices, and sustainability position.

“Sensegen is committed to supporting brands to meet consumers’ expectations of reducing the environmental footprint of their products and inspiring repeat purchases,” said Oglesby. “We are 100% focused on true-to-nature, sustainable, and clean ingredients made possible by biotechnology.”

Oglesby further states, “The beauty of biotech in ingredient creation is monumental. It is significantly more sustainable than agriculturally derived and petroleum-based ingredients.”

Consumers are seeking to buy clean and sustainable products, and they are expecting companies to change from synthetic to natural. In an Edelman Trust survey, consumers confirmed that they expect companies and business leaders to address and solve macro socio-environmental challenges. And in a 2020 World Economic Forum survey, it appears evident that many are willing to participate actively in building back a better world alongside the brands they choose. In responses from 21,000 people and 28 countries, the survey reported that 86% want to see more sustainable and equitable products in the post-pandemic market.

“Sensegen’s launch marks our commitment to The Way Forward™ – an evolving journey to reinvent natural taste, smell, and beauty solutions,” said Oglesby. “Always customer-focused, our disruptive and provocative business model is based on co-creation, transparency, and partnering to produce clean-label solutions that are easy on the planet.”

Disruptive innovations to date include plant-based musk – one of the fragrance industry’s favorite types of materials. Plantarome™ M  is the first biotech source of musk, a highly strategic option for the market with natural animal sources unethical to harvest and, plant sources too costly for mainstream use. Other musk offerings are synthetic, many of which have already been banned in major markets or are limited in concentration due to safety concerns.

The fermentation and bioconversion processes of innovation partner, Conagen, produce optically active molecules that are precisely what nature makes. “Our innovation partnership with Conagen, where there is a natural flow of creativity and intelligence between market and science, creates great value for us and for our customers,” said Oglesby. “And our market success and expansion into beauty demonstrates it.”

Another advantage of biotechnology-based ingredients is that they can sidestep wobbles in supply chains caused by poor weather, seasonality, and inconsistent plant harvest quality without resorting to synthetic substitutes.

Oglesby foresees, “What we created in 2021 with Conagen is a prelude to the great achievements that will be revealed in 2022.”

Sensegen’s new market focus is evolving into three pillars:

The extensive portfolio of true-to-nature liquid flavors will be expanded in 2022 to include powders and new delivery as the tonality excellence will be applied to other sweet flavors and plant-based offerings.

  • Smell (Air Care, Home Care, Fabric Care, Personal Care, and Fine Fragrance)

New captives form the basis for the growing collection of “the new naturals” for fragranced consumer products. Sensegen’s fragrances fill a white space for naturals in the fragrance market moving toward today’s synthetics in both variety and technical performance.

  • Beauty (Personal Care, Hair and Skin Care, and Cosmetics)

Coming soon is a line of clean, novel, proprietary offerings as well as natural and sustainable qualities of market favorites.

“We’re driving the pipeline of taste, smell, and beauty into the 21st century with the guidance of nature and science, driven by the ‘savoir faire’ of the fragrance, flavor, and cosmetic industries,” concluded Oglesby.

Prime Minister Imran Khan launched Pakistan’s first instant person to person payment system ‘Raast’ developed by State Bank of Pakistan in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the country’s population can be turned into a real asset by involving them in the formal economy through digitization.

Imran Khan said Raast will facilitate the common man to do their transactions through cell phones, besides it will also help improve the saving rates.

Imran Khan said technology is the way through which we can enhance our saving rates as well as tax to GDP ratio to take the country forward. He said we are also using technology in FBR in order to trace those who are not paying taxes regardless of lavish lifestyle.

Imran Khan reaffirmed the commitment to lift the people out of poverty, saying if we succeeded in it, it will be the present government’s big achievement.

The Prime Minister also directed the Governor State Bank of Pakistan to establish a special cell to further facilitate the overseas Pakistanis. He said overseas Pakistanis are our biggest asset and we need to further facilitate them.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, in his remarks, termed Raast instant payment system as a revolution in digital banking which will promote e-commerce and IT related exports.

Shaukat Tarin said the Prime Minister will soon announce some new initiatives to help the lower middle and salaried class affected by the price hike. He said Raast can also be used in implementation of those initiatives.

Highlighting the key features of Raast, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir said this technological advanced system, which is only available in few countries, will be completely free and the banks will not charge any fee on it. He asked the people to fully use the system for their payments.

The Governor pointed out that e-banking transactions worth five hundred billion dollars were carried out last year. He said a growth of thirty percent is being witnessed in e-banking transactions and these will further increase through Raast.

Alluding to the future plans of the central bank, Reza Baqir said that five licenses will be issued for the establishment of digital banks which will cater to the common man. He said we are also enabling the people to remotely open their bank accounts with the help of NADRA. He said this will bring more people into the banking system.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar has said that the government is distributing Rs. 3-4 billion per month among around 3,000 young entrepreneurs under the Kamyab Jawan Program, and the scope of this initiative will be expanded to disburse Rs. 8-10 billion.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said loans worth Rs. 39 billion were so far approved under the Kamyab Jawan Program (KJP) to empower the youth. He said 25,700 youth had qualified for the loan scheme, while an interest-free loan of up to Rs. 500,000 was also being provided to the youth under the program. He added that 2,000 tractors worth Rs. 2.5 billion had also been handed over to the young agricultural entrepreneurs. He underlined that more tractors would be given to the youth as part of the government efforts to enhance agriculture productivity.

Usman Dar said the government had allocated Rs. 100 billion for disbursement of soft loans under the Kamyab Jawan Program.

He said 60,000 scholarships were being offered in the third batch under the Kamyab Jawan Skills for All initiative, adding that 100,000 scholarships had already been provided.

Govt Announces a Record-Breaking Increase in Petrol Prices

The government has approved an increase of Rs. 12.03 per liter for petrol following a rise in prices in the international market.

According to the notification released by the Ministry of Finance, the new price of petrol after an increase of Rs. 12.03 is Rs. 159.86 per liter.

The Finance Division in a statement on Tuesday explained that the prices of petroleum products are showing a drastic increase in the international market and presently are at the highest level since 2014. Despite the unabated increase since the beginning of the year, Prime Minister Imran Khan deferred the last review of petroleum products’ prices on January 31, 2022, and advised against the summary of OGRA.

“In the fortnightly review of Petroleum Products’ prices, the prime minister has considered the recommendation to increase the prices of petroleum products in line with the change in the international oil prices. Despite increase in the prices of petroleum products, Petroleum levy and sales tax have been kept to the minimum,” it read.

The price of kerosene oil has also increased, which will now be sold at Rs. 126.56 after an increase of Rs. 10.08 per liter. The prices of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) have been increased to Rs. 154.15 and Rs. 123.97 respectively.

Apart from the new petroleum prices, the government has decided to levy zero percent sales tax and reduce it to provide “relief” to the consumers.

Minister for Religious Affairs Proposes Ban on Aurat March Slogans

Minister for Religious Affairs, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri has proposed a ban on slogans in Aurat March [women’s march], suggesting that 8 March may be declared as Hijab Day [veil day].

In a statement, Qadri said the slogans of Aurat March should be banned because they are often inappropriate.

As the Aurat Azadi March [women’s freedom march] draws near and is likely to stir a debate, ProPakistani tried to contact the Minister to seek his viewpoint in detail, however, he could not be reached.

Why is Aurat March controversial?

International Women’s Day — “Aurat Azadi March” in Pakistan — has been observed in Pakistan since the 1960s, yet one of its slogans, “my body, my choice,” commonly known as “mera jism meri marzi” became extremely controversial in 2017-18.

Before this slogan, the freedom walk i.e. Azadi March, in Pakistan on International Women’s Day used to be a low-key event, as only non-governmental organizations (NGOs) had been observing it earlier. This slogan made it a popular event.

Last year, many religious organizations had also demanded a ban on Azadi March. Several religious organizations organized their own walks against it, as they believed that it was aimed to promote “vulgarity” under an agenda of the West.

Taliban govt’s recognition should be collective process: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has stressed that the recognition of the Taliban government should be a collective process.

In an interview with Le Figaro, France, he said Pakistan believes that more stable the Afghan government is, the less the terrorist groups can operate there.

Imran Khan said the last thing Pakistan wants is isolation by being the only country to recognize the Taliban government. If Pakistan is the first to grant recognition, the international pressure will become too much for us as we try to turn our economy around. We can only recover if we have good relations with the international community.

He said the Taliban government has made promises on the issues of inclusive government and human rights.

Imran Khan said Afghans should not be expected to respect women’s rights as Westerners understand them. But they do agree that girls should be educated.

Responding to a question, the Prime Minister said our first concern is the Refugees. If the humanitarian crisis worsens in Afghanistan, we will have an influx of refugees, while more than 240,000 have already fled their country after the fall of Kabul. We do not have the resources to accept more refugees.

He said Pakistan does not want international terrorism to operate from Afghanistan but this can only be done with the help of the Taliban government. We have already lost eighty thousand lives in the war on terrorism and we do not want a conflict with the Afghan government. We will be partners with the US in peace, not in war.

When asked about Jammu and Kashmir dispute, the Prime Minister said the attitude of the BJP government and the RSS towards Pakistan and Kashmir is worrisome. We are dealing with a government that is not rational, whose ideology is based on hatred of religious minorities and Pakistan. We cannot talk to them. We are at a dead end.

He said talks with India at this point in time would be a betrayal of Kashmiri people who have suffered so much and who live in an open-air prison environment with 800,000 troops deployed in the region.

He, however, said it is possible to build a relationship with India, but this requires the restoration of Kashmir’s autonomy. They have violated international law with this abrogation.

As regards relations with France, the Prime Minister pointed out that about half of our exports go to the European Union, of which France is one of the most significant members. He said France is also our trading partner and he would like to meet President Macron to discuss bilateral ties.

Smeed’s 99 Not Enough for Quetta as Peshawar Clinch Important Win

Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 24 runs to leap frog them into the fourth spot. Quetta move down to the fifth spot after suffering their fifth defeat of the season.

Zalmi got off to a terrible start as they lost Hazratullah Zazai and Liam Livingstone to Naseem Shah in the first over of the innings. Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat orchestrated a comeback as they steadied the ship for Zalmi. Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting lit up Gaddafi Stadium as he struck huge sixes at the backend of the innings to take the total to 185/7.

Quetta too got off to a bad start as they lost Jason Roy and James Vince early on in the innings. Will Smeed and Sarfaraz Ahmed rebuilt the innings before Usman Qadir struck with quick back to back wickets to bring Zalmi back into the game. Smeed was the lone warrior for Quetta but he too perished after a brilliant innings of 99 runs. Peshawar restricted Quetta to 161/8 and won the match by 24 runs.

Hussain Talat was named as the player of the match for his all-round performance. He scored 51 runs off 33 balls and finished with figures of 1/8 in 2 overs.

Pre Match

Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi will lock horns in the 22nd match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7. The two teams will battle it out against each other at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore at 7:30 pm PKT on Tuesday, 15 February.

Match Preview

The battle for the coveted fourth spot heats up as Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators battle tonight at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. A win for either team in the all-important clash will take them two points clear of the fifth position and it could be a virtual knock-out with just two more group stage matches to go.

Quetta Gladiators will be hoping to bounce back quickly after their disappointing loss to Lahore Qalandars in their previous outing. They will be determined to get back to winning ways and get one foot into their first PSL play-offs in three years. While Quetta has been unlucky with a number of players being ruled out of the tournament, they still have enough firepower to defeat any team in the competition. Peshawar Zalmi on the other got back to winning ways as they defeated Karachi Kings in their previous encounter. The Yellow Storm will be hoping that they put in a similar performance and move up to the fourth spot. Peshawar is the only team in the running to make it to all the PSL playoffs. They look like a real threat with players coming back into form at a crucial stage in the tournament.
