Govt lifts ban on import of non-essential, luxury goods: Miftah

Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail has announced lifting of ban on import of non-essential and luxury goods.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the Regulatory Duties will be enhanced manifold to discourage import of such products.

The Finance Minister said the duties being imposed would not let these commodities to enter into Pakistan as finished goods.

He said Regulatory Duties would be enhanced three times or to maximum possible level and can go even up to 400 to 600 percent or more.

Miftah Ismael said Pakistan is not having many dollars to spend on import of luxury items and the existing resources would be utilized to provide the people of the country with flour, wheat, cotton, edible oil instead of I-phones or luxury vehicles.

Second phase of Sindh local body’s polls to be held on 28th August

A special meeting was held at the Election Commission Secretariat regarding the peaceful conduct of the by-elections of NA-245 in Karachi and the second phase of local body’s elections in Sindh.

According to Election of Commission of Pakistan, by-elections are scheduled to be held on 21st of this month whereas second phase of local body’s elections in Sindh will be held on 28th of this month.

The meeting was presided over by Secretary Election Commission and Chief Secretary Sindh via video link.

On the occasion, the Secretary Election Commission conveyed the message of the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja that during the polling, any kind of unrest and interference in the polling will not be tolerated under any circumstances and action will be taken against the violators.

It is pertinent to mention that 263 polling stations have been established in NA 245 Karachi, while 9046 polling stations have been established in the second phase of local body’s elections in Sindh, which will be held in Karachi and Hyderabad.

APHC calls upon world to prevent New Delhi from further escalating volatile situation in IIOJK

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Masarrat Aalam Butt and other Hurriyat leaders have called upon the International Community to prevent India from further escalating the volatile situation in the region by fiddling with the UN-designated disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the reaction comes after the Indian government allowed its citizens to vote in IIOJK assembly elections. In a message from an Indian jail Musarrat Alam Butt strongly denounced the move and warned the international community that New Delhi is converting occupied Jammu and Kashmir into a settler colony as Israel is doing in occupied Palestine.

He said the Indian government is bringing people from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and other states as part of its plan to initially settle more than 2.5 million non-locals in occupied Kashmir.

Other APHC leaders including Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Abdul Ahad Parra, Javed Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori and Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said the latest Indian move is a brazen violation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir.

Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti addressing the media in Srinagar said the BJP wants to install a local fascist and to de-franchise the Kashmiri people.

High flood expected at Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur barrages: Ahmed Kamal

Chairman Federal Flood Commission Ahmed Kamal says high flood is expected at Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur barrages in next two to three days.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said Sindh, the eastern parts of Balochistan and the southern parts of Punjab are under heavy rains.

Ahmed Kamal said heavy rains in the country will result in hundred percent filling of Tarbela dam.

He also called for introducing projects to contain and disperse water to avoid floods.

CM KP directs concerned authorities to focus on urban forestation

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the concerned authorities to focus on urban forestation during the current monsoon tree plantation campaign.

Presiding over a meeting in Peshawar on Thursday, he appealed the people to plant maximum trees to combat the issue of climate change.
