Mehfil-e-mushaira held at NBH Islamabad regarding Pakistan’s Independence Day

A mehfil-e-mushaira was organized at National Broadcasting House, Islamabad in connection with Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Independence Day of Pakistan.

Prominent poets from across the country attended the event and presented their love and devotion for the country in the form of their mesmerizing verses.

Those who participated included Iftikhar Arif, Dr Ehsaan Akbar, Jalil Aali, Yasmin Hameed, Mehboob Zafar, Naseem-e-Sehar, Hassan Abbas Raza, Rehman Hafeez, Qayyum Tahir, Anjum Saleemi, Rakhshanda Naveed, Parveen Tahir, Ahmed Farid and Irfan Jameel. They termed the event a continuity of Radio Pakistan’s noble tradition of promoting literary activities.

In his address on the occasion as chief guest, Director General Radio Pakistan Sohail Ali Khan said literary activities are hallmark of Radio Pakistan. He reiterated the resolve to continue these activities in the future.

IHC serves show cause notice to Imran Khan, summons in contempt case on Aug 31

A larger bench of Islamabad High Court has issued show cause notice to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, summoning him in personal capacity on the 31st of this month in the contempt of court case.

The court had taken up contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan for threatening additional sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a public rally.

ECP postpones LG elections in nine districts of Hyderabad

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed local government elections in Hyderabad division on the recommendation of Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh, district administration and the report of meteorological department.

In a statement, ECP spokesman said the LG elections in nine districts of Hyderabad were scheduled on next Friday.

The spokesman said the ECP has convened a meeting tomorrow to review the holding of LG elections in Karachi division. He said the final decision in that regard would be taken after reviewing the various aspects of the report sent by the Sindh government.

Govt committed to provide medical relief to public: KP CM

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan says no compromise will be made over the provision of free medical treatment under the health card scheme in registered private hospitals.

Presiding over a meeting in Peshawar on Wednesday, he directed the health authorities to take strict action against those private hospitals who are creating hurdles in free treatment under health card for the public.

Mahmood Khan said a transparent inquiry should be conducted to resolve the genuine reservations of private hospitals and asked the private hospital administrations to ensure better medical treatment of public without any discrimination.

The Chief Minister said the health card is a pro-poor project of the present government is committed to provide medical relief to the public.

Govt planning to set up new power projects: Dastgir

Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir says, on the special directives of Prime Minister, fuel surcharge for the month of August has been abolished and concrete measures are being taken to ensure immediate supply of cheap electricity to people in the country.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Wednesday, he said government will set up new power projects on the basis of fuel sources available in the country. He said, similarly, Thar coal projects will be completed in the coming days.

He asked HESCO to reduce load shedding in flood-affected areas of Sindh.
