UAE expresses keen interest to augment investment in Pakistan’s economy

The United Arab Emirates has expressed its keen interest to augment investment in Pakistan in new sectors of the economy.

The interest was shown by Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salim Al-Zaabi during his meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Ambassador highlighted that UAE is fully cognizant of the development-oriented economic policies of Pakistan.

During the meeting, they shared historical and long-standing ties between both countries and exchanged views on further boosting and strengthening these economic ties.

Both sides resolved to timely implement the decisions taken during recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the UAE.

The Finance Minister welcomed the proposal for new investment in Pakistan by UAE and assured the UAE’s Ambassador of full support and cooperation by the government.

He highlighted the avenues for investment in Pakistan in energy, refinery, petroleum and trade sectors.

PM calls for implementing nationwide Solarization project

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says implementation of nationwide Solarization project will ensure saving valuable foreign exchange being spent on imported fuel.

Addressing a meeting to review the implementation of energy saving measures in the country in Islamabad today, he said process for Solarization of government buildings should be accelerated and completed within the stipulated time.

The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to finalize the policy for the production of electric motorcycles and solar panels in the country. He also directed to devise a comprehensive plan to replace fans with high electricity consumption.

Shehbaz Sharif said National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority should be made more active and empowered to save energy in the country.

The meeting was told that the process of Solarization of 671 government buildings has started.

The meeting was further apprised that conical baffles have been made mandatory in the manufacture of new geysers in Pakistan. It was informed that a strategy has been finalized to install conical baffles in old geysers as well.

Cabinet adopts unanimous resolution condemning Peshawar suicide attack

The Federal Cabinet has adopted a unanimous resolution condemning the suicide attack in a mosque of Peshawar Police Lines.

The cabinet meeting was held in Islamabad on Wednesday with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair.

Representing the people of the country, the cabinet expressed its condolence and sympathy with the bereaved families of martyrs.

The Cabinet expressed its firm resolve that all forms of terrorism will be completely eradicated and the lives and property of the people will be protected.

It also pledged to restructure Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and Counter Terrorism Department and substantial steps will be taken to provide quality training and weapons to avoid such incidents in future.

The Cabinet urged all political forces of the country to be united against terrorism and underscored that political divisions and grudges should be put aside and all political forces should be united in the interest of the country.

It was made clear that those who target Muslims in mosque do not deserve to be called Muslims and human beings.

The cabinet noted that such acts are Haram in the light of Quran and Sunnah and collective opinion of eminent Islamic scholars.

Speaking at a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to overcome the menace of terrorism with collective efforts and wisdom.

He expressed serious concern over the resurgence of terrorist elements, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Prime Minister said if immediate and effective steps were not taken, the despicable incidents may spread to other parts of the country.

He said the terrorists were defeated and peace was restored in the country after Raddul Fassad and Zarb-e-Azb operations but resurfacing of the terrorist elements is a matter of concern.

The Prime Minister was especially appreciative of the sacrifices rendered by people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the war against terrorism.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained the front line province in this war and its sacrifices will always be remembered in history.

Shehbaz Sharif said the province had been given four hundred and seventeen billion rupees since 2010 to improve its counter terrorism capability.

He said this was the right of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but the question arises as to where that amount was spent.

President calls upon Ulema to play role in discouraging extremism

President Dr. Arif Alvi has called upon the religious scholars to play their role in bringing positive social change and discouraging extremism, terrorism, and sectarianism in the country.

Talking to a delegation of Ulema Mashaikh Yakjehti Council of Pakistan in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said they also have a role in promoting the conservation of resources, national solidarity, religious tolerance, inter-faith harmony and peace.

He said that the challenges of terrorism and militancy in Pakistan required a comprehensive action plan coupled with concerted efforts on the part of the Ulema in the areas of counter-extremism and counter-terrorism.

The President stated that it is the responsibility of religious scholars to disseminate the true teachings of Islam among the people, especially the youth to promote virtue, ethics, and morality in society.

He said that Pakistan could progress and achieve its rightful place in the comity of nations through discipline, persistence, moral righteousness, and promoting social justice.

The President said that Ulema should make concerted efforts to remove divisions from society, and should promote unity and solidarity within the country. He said the youth should be educated on tolerance, forgiveness, and peace as these were the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
