Ahsan directs to prepare report on impacts of CPEC projects

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has directed all the Ministries to prepare a report on socio-economic impacts of CPEC projects on the country on the occasion of completion of ten years of this mega project.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting to review pace of development on projects being carried out under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahsan Iqbal said during his recent visit to China, both sides agreed to hold meeting of the Joint Working Group after every two months.

The Minister said government is taking all possible steps to provide security and safety to the investment under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The meeting reviewed progress on ML-1 and Karachi Circular Railways and also deliberated upon different projects including up gradation of Yarak-D I Khan- Zhob Highway, Mirpur-Muzaffarabad road, Mansehra-Babusar Tunnel and Alternate Alignment of Motorway connecting Karachi with Hyderabad.

Promoting skills, technical and vocational education for youth top priority for govt:Tanveer

Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that promoting skills, technical and vocational education for youth bulge is a top priority for the current government.

He was talking to a senior delegation of World Bank led by the Vice President World Bank Human Development Group Mamta Murthi in Islamabad today.

The Minister said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has put high importance on education. He said that by enhancing digital learning practices in education sector and by developing distance education eco-system, we could provide blended learning solutions through technology-enabled opportunities in the entire country.

Rana Tanveer said that one of the areas of focus is to streamline Madrassas and religious education centers that offer regular educational opportunities to the students nationally. He said that a special regulatory authority has been set up which has registered 14,000 Madrassas nationally out of 40,000.

He said that the issue of out of School children is a top priority that needs urgent focus.

Vice President World Bank Human Development Group Mamta Murthi acknowledged the role of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in the implementation of the on-going World Bank funded projects.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called for passing on the benefits of development to individuals, communities and under-developed localities to achieve sustainable national progress.

Chairing a review-meeting on development projects of backward districts in Islamabad, he said the government had prepared a special package for 20 selected under-privileged districts to bring them at par with other developed areas of the country.

Sharing detail of the package, Ahsan Iqbal said development activities would be carried out in 11 selected districts of Balochistan, five of Sindh, three of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one of Punjab, with 50 per cent contribution by the federal government and 50 per cent of respective provinces.
