Promotion of knowledge-based economy vital for economic progress: Punjab Governor

Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that economic progress cannot be achieved without promoting knowledge-based economy.

 

He was addressing 18th convocation of Islamia University, Bahawalpur on Saturday.

 

He said that government of PML (N) is determined for the wellbeing of youth despite financial constraints.

 

He asked the students to devote their energies and skills to the country and the nation.

 

While lauding the performance of Islamia University, he congratulated the faculty members, students and staff of the university that globally, IUB has improved from 1000-1200 to 801-1000 position.

 

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Islamia University, Bahawalpur Engineer Prof Dr Athar Mehboob in his welcome address said that twenty thousand students of the university are getting scholarships worth more than one billion rupees during the current financial year.

 

According to Radio Pakistan’s Correspondent Sajjad Parvez, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman also distributed degrees among eight PhD and 71 MPhil scholars while awarded sixty seven gold medals, fifty four silver medals to the students of BS, BSc, MA, MCs, disciplines.

By polls on eight NA, three PA seats to be held on Sunday

By polls on eight seats of National Assembly and three seats of Punjab Assembly will be held on Sunday.

 

The constituencies of National Assembly where the by election will be held are: Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Malir, Korangi and Multan.

 

The Punjab Assembly’s constituencies are: Sheikhupura , Khanewal and  Bahawalnagar.

 

In a statement on Saturday, the Election Commission of Pakistan said it has completed all the arrangements for the by election.

 

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries and Inspector Generals of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces to ensure peaceful environment and fool proof security during the by elections.

 

According to the content of the letter, the administration and security institutions have been asked to stay extra vigilant in view of political polarization and the flood devastation to ensure transparent and impartial conduct of the election.

Pakistan asks India to investigate custodial death of Kashmiri leader Altaf Shah

Pakistan has asked India to immediately investigate the custodial death of Kashmiri leader Altaf Ahmed Shah and hold to account all those responsible for the tragedy.

 

Speaking at the weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said we are deeply saddened at the inhuman custodial death of Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Shah, who remained imprisoned in the infamous Tihar Jail for the last five years.

 

He said the Indian Charge d’ Affaires in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and conveyed Pakistan’s strong protest over the death of Altaf Ahmed Shah caused by Indian government’s deliberate negligence, and utter disregard for human rights.

 

The spokesperson also strongly condemned the extra-judicial killing of two more Kashmiris in fresh acts of state-sponsored terrorism by Indian occupation forces in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

President, PM condemn killing of former Chief Justice of BHC

President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have strongly condemned the assassination of former Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court and Federal Shariat Court Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai in Kharan.

In a tweet on Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked Balochistan government to use all resources to bring killers to justice.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.  He paid tributes to the services of Justice Noor Muhammad Maskanzai in the field of law and justice.

He said such heinous and highly condemnable acts in Balochistan are aimed at spreading chaos and to terrorize the people.

Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to root out the menace of terrorism.

In his message, President Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

The President paid rich tribute to the deceased for his services in the field of law.

He stressed on the need to expedite efforts to curb the menace of terrorism.

Finance Minister reiterates commitment to implement ongoing IMF program

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to implement the ongoing IMF program.

He expressed this resolve in his interviews to Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, AP and AFP and in a subsequent evening engagement at the Pakistan house with senior representatives of various think thanks and US media.

Ishaq Dar also highlighted the economic priorities of the government during his interviews.

The Finance Minister along with Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also attended the 2022 Annual Plenary of the IMF and World Bank.

COAS briefed on latest operational situation along the LoC

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited front line troops deployed at Nauseri Sector along the Line of Control today (Saturday).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the COAS was briefed on the latest operational situation along the Line of Control, and operational readiness of the formation.

While interacting with officers and men, the Army Chief appreciated them for continued vigil and operational preparedness.

Earlier, on arrival at the Line of Control, General Qamar Javed Bajwa was received by Commander Rawalpindi Corps Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza.

Pakistan expresses grief over deaths due to explosion in Turkiye

Pakistan has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in a coal mine explosion in Bartin rovince of Turkiye.

According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, the government and the people of Pakistan have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to Turkiye over the tragic loss of lives, and prayed for a swift and successful rescue operation, which is underway.

Expressing wishes for speedy recovery to of the injured, the spokesperson said that Pakistan stands with its Turkish brothers and sisters in this hour of pain.
