Both sides confirmed that the situation in Ukraine was discussed.
After Friday’s call, Pentagon said the US was eager to keep lines of communication open.
Russia’s defence ministry said current questions of international security were discussed, including the situation in Ukraine.

The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has elected new Central Committee and new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
The week-long National Congress concluded in Beijing which was presided over by President Xi Jinping on Saturday.
The forum also passed a resolution on the work report of the 19th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
The new CPC leadership will be elected at the first plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee tomorrow.

Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed government’s firm resolve for successfully implementing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
Talking to Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Nong Rong in Islamabad on Saturday, Ishaq Dar said the CPEC project will play an important role in taking local economy forward as well as cementing the bilateral relationship between both the countries.
The minister further highlighted the economic challenges and policies of the present government with aim to bring about economic and fiscal stability.
He also appreciated the support extended by the Chinese leadership for flood relief and refinancing of syndicate facility of RMB 15 billion (US$ 2.24 billion) to Pakistan.
Finance Minister said Pakistan and China are enjoying deep-rooted friendly relations which are strengthening with each passing day.
On the occasion, the Chinese Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s continued support to Pakistan and thanked the Government of Pakistan on facilitating Chinese companies in various projects in Pakistan.
He also assured full support and cooperation of Chinese Government in developing Special Economic Zones as part of CPEC.

Business leaders stressed on joint and sustainable efforts for economic growth at the inaugural launch and dialogue of Marketing Association of Pakistan (MAP) on the theme of “Imagining the Unimaginable” on Saturday.
Muhammad Azfar Ahsan, Former State Minister and Chairman Board of Investment (BOI), President Marketing Association of Pakistan (MAP) said the prevailing economic situation is temporary, and the economy needs to be revived in the months to come considering the billions of dollars of potential in the country.
He said Pakistan is a very attractive market for foreign investors even in this situation, evident from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) willing to initiate dialogue with Pakistan for exploring various venues of investment on a long-term basis.
He said that MAP’s role is crucial in the contribution of the private sector and the economy of the country however it needs to enhance its footprint through various chapters and the membership of experienced members and leaders including professional women.
Quoting the theme “imagine the unimaginable”, Faysal Bank Limited CEO & President Yousaf Hussain said the bank will be converted to a full-fledged Islamic bank by the end of 2022, which was a dream of its board of directors eight years ago.
The bank will enhance its presence with nearly 700 branches converted by the end of 2022 to be the second largest Islamic of the country with a wide range of innovative products including a Sharia-compliant credit card.
Muhammad Aurangzeb, President and CEO Habib Bank Limited and Chairman Pakistan Banks’ Association (PBA) said Pakistan’s exit from FATF’s grey list is a prime example of the potential benefits of joint efforts that the policymakers, state institutions and the private sector can bring and this should be replicated with the same spirit for addressing the core macroeconomic issues.
He added that the Charter of Economy is a workable idea aiming to address key areas of the economy by stakeholders on a sustainable basis.
Ghias Khan, President Overseas Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and Engro Corporation said the government should devise a comprehensive policy environment that can give a boost to productive sectors and industries rather than unproductive sectors like real estate.
He also said that the government should also realize that the country’s economic growth is bound to regional growth like in the case of the GCC and ASEAN, hence, bilateral trade with neighboring countries should be promoted.
Maheen Rahman, CEO InfraZamin said that Pakistan stands among the five most populous countries in the world but its contribution is negligible in the global economy. The 10 most populous countries account for 60% of the world’s GDP but unfortunately we only contribute 0.4%.
She highlighted that Pakistan can double its share in the global economy by doubling its GDP, labor productivity, and women’s participation in the workforce. In this regard, investment in human capital is indispensable mainly in the areas of health, education and skilled development.
Aamir Paracha, CEO Unilever Pakistan Limited said the government policy should also consider its focus from GDP growth rate to the development of Human Development Index (HDI), which we as a country stand among the lowest across the world.
He further said that the government and NGOs cannot fill the gap between society and the economy, the private sector should take ownership for the development of the socio-economic situation of the country, he further said.
Former Information Minister Javed Jabbar said Pakistan has immense development potential with various unique derivatives and lots of opportunities in addition to having an advantageous geographical presence.
The formation of Pakistan can also be attributed as imagining the unimaginable as not only British Empire but the Congress and Muslim scholars were against Quad-e-Azam, the founder of Pakistan, he added.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has called for creating an OIC working Group to counter Islamophobia and misinformation.
She was addressing 12th Conference of the Ministers of Information of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in in Istanbul, Turkiye on Saturday.
The Information Minister proposed that a special OIC representative be appointed and a panel of experts be formed to give suggestions to the organization to deal with the incidents of Islamophobia and support the victims.
Emphasizing on intensified efforts to tackle Islamophobia, the Minister said the phenomenon is not abating as there has been a constant rise in mob lynching, pre-planned communal riots, and negative portrayal in electronic and social media in India.
She said OIC being a representative of the collective aspirations of the Muslim Ummah, must throw its full political and economic weight to protect the fundamental rights of Muslims and interests of Muslim minorities across the globe.
Putting forth her recommendations, the Minister said information colonialism has to be fought and a new independent information regime should be established.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said any internal trends within the Muslim states that feed misperceptions about Islam and the Muslim societies should be curtailed through better public participation, more inclusivity and focus on freedom of speech that is culturally sensitive and internationally projectable.
Underscoring the need for laws to identify and prosecute promoters of hate and deception, the Minister said we must fight fake news with real news alongside upholding the basic freedoms.
She reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to play role in ensuring capacity building and sharing of best practices within OIC member states.
Speaking about climate change, the Minister said media in the OIC Member States has a responsibility to highlight and underscore the importance of urgent, unified and decisive action by the international community to combat this challenge.
She said many OIC countries are facing climate injustice. She gave example of Pakistan and Nigeria which are amongst the most climate vulnerable countries in the world even though their carbon emission is negligible.
Highlighting Pakistan’s extensive operations for relief and rehabilitation in the flood-hit areas, Marriyum Aurangzeb said climate-induced floods have resulted in losses estimated at 40 billion dollars.
On the occasion, she also thanked the international community, in particular OIC countries, for their invaluable contribution to the flood relief efforts.

Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif has lauded the role of the Armed Forces for getting Pakistan removed from the Grey List of the Financial Action Task Force.
Talking to newsmen in Sialkot on Saturday, he said Pakistan’s removal from the FATF Grey List is a great success for the country.
Khawaja Asif said Pakistan Army has rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the peace and stability of the country.
About appointment of next Army Chief, the Defence Minister said it will be made next month as per law and the constitution.
He said PTI Chairman Imran Khan used donated money to the cancer hospital for his political purposes.
Khawaja Asif said general elections will be held on their scheduled time.
