The 6th International Oyster Culture Festival Lights Up Rushan Yintan Beach in Weihai RUSHAN, China,

Oct. 11, 2021 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/– During this year’s National Day Golden Week holiday, the 6th International  Oyster Culture Festival in Weihai once again lit up Rushan Yintan beach. A number of fantastic activities, including the opening ceremony, a super oyster feast, a fireworks show and a beer festival, drew a huge crowd to Yintan’s beach, invigorating the new city of Yintan, according to the People’s Government of Rushan.

On the evening of October 2, the opening ceremony was held in the plaza of the Rushan Yintan Tourist Resort. During the event, several activities were held under the Wind from the Sea tourist banner, creating new hot spots for holidaying in Yintan, such as the Globe of Death, the Super Oyster Feast, and Beach Motorcycling. For each of three consecutive days, 500 kilograms of steaming oysters were on offer, ensuring that tourists would remember the delicacy of Rushan oysters, and also encouraging many more tourists to visit Yintan.

This year, Rushan saw a 23.5 percent year-on-year increase in the number of tourists visiting during the National Day Golden Week. Specifically, Rushan Yintan and surrounding tourist attractions hosted up to almost 100,000 tourists a day.

In recent years, Rushan Yintan has made great use of its environmental resources advantages, for example the blue sea and clear skies that are characteristic of the region. The city has successfully hosted some major sporting events such as the National Women’s Half Marathon and the National Cycling Championships, and has organized a range of themed cultural events such as The Most Beautiful Yintan People Talent Show and the Love in the Four Seas  events. In this way, Yintan has accumulated a core of local internet celebrities and spokespeople, thereby enabling the people of Yintan to use their own means to promote Yintan’s natural scenery and cultural customs, and to showcase the dynamic coastal city image of Charming Yintan.

Prime Minister Stresses Coordinated Efforts to Develop Pakistan’s Mineral Sector

Prime Minister Imran Khan stated on Monday that the mineral sector of Pakistan held a huge potential, as it offered a good return on investment and could contribute to the overall economic growth of the country.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the mineral development framework, the Prime Minister emphasized that a coordinated effort by the federal and provincial governments was required to beef up the steps being taken for the development of minerals.

A focal person, he directed, must be appointed at the earliest to play a bridge between the federal and provincial governments and supervise the implementation of the mineral development framework. He underlined that the models, adopted at the international level, should be studied to learn lessons and enhance the capacity of indigenous human resources to be employed for mineral development. The goals and targets of the mineral development framework be completed within their allocated timelines, he stressed.

Earlier, Federal Secretary Petroleum briefed the meeting on the strategic plan for mineral development. The meeting participants were informed that the mineral sector, at present, contributed less than 1% to the GDP, and the implementation of the strategic plan, categorized into short, medium, and long-term targets, would enhance the share of minerals to 10% over the next 15 years.

The Secretary Petroleum explained that the plan consisted of harmonizing the federal and provincial efforts, enhancing the technical outreach, helping database development, providing fiscal incentives, training indigenous human resources, and developing a legal framework.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers, Shaukat Fayaz Tarin, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Asad Umar, Advisor on Commerce, Abdul Razaq Dawood, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, Dr. Shehbaz Gill, Director General Frontier Works Organization, and senior federal and provincial officers.

Instagram to Introduce “Take a Break” to Protect Teens From Harmful Content

Instagram has caught flak recently for having harmful content that’s causing mental health issues in teens. As a result, the social media giant is now trying to mitigate the problem by introducing a new feature called “take a break”.

Facebook vice president of global affairs Nick Clegg said that:

We’re going to introduce something which I think will make a considerable difference, which is where our systems see that a teenagers is looking at the same content over and over again, and it’s content which may not be conducive to their well being, we will nudge them to look at other content.

He added that they are pausing work on the Instagram Kids apps and giving parents optional controls to supervise teens. They are planning to introduce a “take a break” feature instead which will simply tell teens to take a break from Instagram or steer them away from harmful content.

Clegg did not reveal a timeline for this feature, but a Facebook spokesperson has told The Verge that the feature is not in testing yet, but it will be soon. This means that we will likely not see it this month, but near the end of the year. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has also said that they are currently “exploring” new features.

Mohammad Amir Takes a Dig at Pakistan’s Selection Policy

Former Pakistan pacer, Mohammad Amir, has taken a sly dig at Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection policy for the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup. Amir hinted that PCB decided to make changes to Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad after pressure from the cricketing fraternity.

PCB decided to make three major changes to the initial squad as the former captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, young exciting batter, Haider Ali, and explosive opener, Fakhar Zaman, replaced Azam Khan, Khushdil Shah, and Mohammad Hasnain in the 15-man squad.

Amir took to Twitter to take a dig at the PCB. Amir tweeted that fast bowler, Wahab Riaz, and opener, Sharjeel Khan, should have been included in the squad as well but the PCB decided to select two players of their liking and were forced to select the other due to media pressure.

Amir tweeted, “I still believe Shoaib Malik, Sharjeel Khan and Wahab Riaz should be in the squad, but hwa wohi hai 2 tere or 2 mere but it’s time to support our team.”

Veteran middle-order batter, Shoaib Malik was included in the squad later on as middle-order batter, Sohaib Maqsood was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a back injury.

Amir expressed his delight at Malik’s inclusion and tweeted in his support once again.

Financial Crisis in Sindh’s Boards May Delay Exam Results

The deepening financial crisis in several Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) of Sindh has made it difficult for boards to pay salaries to their employees.

According to reports, depletion of funds has been reported in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, and Sukkur educational boards, due to which salaries of the employees have been delayed.

For the second consecutive month, the Mirpur Khas board released salaries with a week’s delay, while other boards issued salaries using savings accounts due to a lack of funds in their general accounts.

The financial situation of the matriculation and intermediate boards of Karachi is not very encouraging either. According to reports, they will not have enough money in their accounts to pay salaries after December.

The boards made several requests for funds from the provincial government but to no avail.

Chairmen of the boards have said that they will not be able to compile the examination results if funds were not released immediately.

“Such a situation may lead to a delay in announcement of results, which could disturb the entire academic calendar,” an official of the Hyderabad education board said.

He said that the board employees would go on strike from 11 October.

Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Clerks Association has also threatened to boycott work in offices if the funds for their salaries are not released.

PM Imran Directs All-out Steps to Attract Chinese Investment in SEZs

Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the authorities concerned to take all possible measures to attract and facilitate the Chinese companies to invest in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including the provision of land, electricity and gas connections, and tax incentives.

Charing a meeting held on Monday to discuss steps for facilitating the Chinese investors, he underlined that Pakistan needed investment to accelerate industrialization. He said, “it is critical to creating maximum employment opportunities for the growing population, 65% of which is under the age of 35.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister was briefed on the progress of work on all the 27 SEZs. He was informed that the work on five SEZs, including Dhabeji in Sindh, Rashakai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bostan in Balochistan, Allama Iqbal Industrial City in Punjab, and Gawadar in Balochistan, was in full swing. Besides, he was told, an effective one window operation facility was being set up at each of these SEZs, in addition to a facilitation center at the CPEC Authority to resolve all issues of the potential Chinese investors under one roof.

The meeting was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong, Federal Ministers, Shaukat Fayyaz Tarin, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Asad Umar, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Advisor on Commerce, Abdul Razzak Dawood, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on CPEC Affairs, Khalid Mansoor, and senior officers concerned.
