Tourism can be further promoted in GB: Caretaker PM

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said tourism can be further promoted in Gilgit-Baltistan by developing communication system and necessary infrastructure in the area.

He was talking to a seventeen-member delegation of Royal Foundation of Gilgit Baltistan led by its Chairman Raja Nazim-ul-Ameen in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister said it will also help create opportunities for economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said a positive trend in tourism was witnessed after upgradation of the Skardu Airport to international level. He said Gilgit-Baltistan is rich with natural resources and its people are very hospitable.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said several countries have expressed their interest to have joint ventures with Pakistan in the field of tourism.

The Prime Minister also instructed the concerned officials to devise a strategy to look for a sustainable solution to address electricity problems in Gilgit-Baltistan. Besides, he directed to enhance quota of GB students in all disciplines
of higher and technical education in all the provinces.

The Prime Minister also appreciated services of the Royal Foundation for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The delegation presented suggestions to the Prime Minister for the improvement of various departments in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Prime Minister, on the occasion, was briefed that over 1.6 million tourists visit the area last year.

Pakistan, Azerbaijan agree to enhance cooperation in diverse areas

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse areas, including agriculture.

The consensus emerged in a meeting between Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee and Azerbaijan’s Minister for Agriculture Majnun Mammadov in Baku.

In a post on social media platform X, the Azerbaijani Minister said the meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing agricultural product trade turnover and strengthening collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in areas such as animal husbandry, rice farming, and cotton cultivation.

Govt committed to ensure transparent elections: Gohar

Interior Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz says government is committed to ensure free, transparent and peaceful elections in the country.

He was speaking while presiding over a meeting along with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arshad Hussain in Peshawar.

They were given a detailed briefing on upcoming general elections and the overall security situation of the province.

Nation goes to polls tomorrow

The nation goes to polls tomorrow to elect members of the National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies.

The polling will begin at eight in the morning and continue till five in the evening.

It will also be public holiday so that the people could exercise their right without any hindrance.

The voters are required to bring their original Computerized National Identity Cards in order to cast the vote. Expired CNIC is also acceptable.

The Voters are also advised to get their vote details befor the polling day by sending their CNIC number on 8300 through SMS.

The elections will be held on 265 seats of National Assembly and five hundred and ninety seats of four provincial assemblies.

A total of 5121 candidates are in the race for the National Assembly seats. These include 4807 male, 312 female and two transgender.

For the four provincial assemblies, 12695 candidates are in the field including 12123 male, 570 women and two transgender.

There are a total of 128,585,760 registered voters in the country.

unjab has the most number of 73, 207,896 registered voters followed by Sindh with 26,994,769, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 21,928,119, Balochistan with 5,371,947 and Federal Capital Islamabad 1,083,029.

Ninety thousand seven hundred and seventy seven polling stations have been established nationwide. Of these, forty four thousand polling stations have been declared normal, twenty nine thousand nine hundred and eighty five sensitive, and sixteen thousand, seven hundred and sixty six highly sensitive.

About six hundred and fifty thousand security personnel have been deployed on the ground to ensure the security of the voters. These include the personnel of police, civil armed forces and the armed forces. Under a three tiered system, the personnel of the armed forces will perform duties outside the polling stations.

Meanwhile, Election Commission has completed all arrangements for the polling. It has completed the delivery of around 260 million ballot papers.

In the federal capital, police personnel have reached
the polling stations and they will stay there overnight.

Along with 6500 personnel of Islamabad Police, 1000 FC, 1500 Rangers and Pakistan Army jawans will perform the duties. A central control room for elections has been set up in Safe City.
