Education Minister directs HEC to accelerate policy formulation process

Caretaker Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi has directed the Higher Education Commission to accelerate the formulation of policy and execution of education related projects.

He was chairing an important meeting of the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad today.

During the meeting, the Minister was briefed by the HEC about the consideration of the Private Members Bill “The Smart Institute of Science and Technology (Amendment) Bill 2023”.

He was told that HEC has been deliberating on developing a service structure and promotion policy for the University Teachers.

The DG of the Federal Directorate of Education informed the meeting about imparting training to the teachers of FDE.

It was told in the meeting current number of A and O level students in Islamabad s approximately 6,000.

Legal forums available for redressal of election-related complaints: Info Minister

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Murtaza Solangi, has said that legal forums are available for the redressal of complaints regarding elections.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad today, he said any candidate can approach the legal forums if they have any complaints.

The Minister mentioned that the Balochistan Government is making all-out efforts to resolve issues under the country’s laws. He expressed hope that the people’s difficulties would soon come to an end.

Regarding the summoning of the National Assembly session, Murtaza Solangi said the summary to convene the sitting of the House would be issued with his signature. He added that legally, the session would be summoned at an appropriate time.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs mentioned that the Election Commission of Pakistan has to notify poll results within 14 days after the election. He further stated that the President, under Article 91, can summon a session of the National Assembly within 21 da
ys after elections. He noted that these 21 days will be completed on the 29th of this month. Hence, a session of the National Assembly can be summoned at any time until the 29th of this month.

The Minister clarified that under the Constitution, any member of the National Assembly can contest for the offices of the Prime Minister, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker.

Re-polling at some polling stations of NA-88, PS-18, PK-90 to be held tomorrow

Re-polling at some polling stations in NA-88 Khushab, PS-18 Ghotki-I, and PK-90 Kohat-I will be held tomorrow.

Election Commission of Pakistan had ordered re-polling due to pilferage, snatching, and burning of polling material in these constituencies.

Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab Ejaz Anwar Chauhan presided over a meeting in Lahore today and reviewed the preparations for re-polling to be held at 26 polling stations of NA-88 Khushab.

ECC recommends uniform gas price for fertilizer plants

Economic Coordination Committee has recommended uniform gas price for fertilizer plants, and decided the revision of sale price should be consistent with revenue requirements of the Sui companies.

The decision to this effect came at a meeting under the chair of Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar in Islamabad today.

The Committee directed the Competition Commission of Pakistan to investigate the undue increase in urea price during recent past and fix the responsibility.

Moreover, the ECC approved the proposal of Federal Board of Revenue regarding “Rationalization of Criterion of Enhanced Rate of 25 percent Sales Tax on Locally Manufactured and Assembled Vehicles after detailed discussion.

On a summary presented by the Ministry of Commerce regarding amendments in Import and Export of Precious Metal Jewelry and Gemstones Order, 2013” and “Import Policy Order 2022, the Committee directed that a committee comprising of representatives of Ministry of Commerce, Law, FBR and SECP may formulate detaile
d proposals for this export oriented policy reform targeting opening up of the service sector.

The committee further approved the proposal of signing of Share Subscription Agreement between National Credit Guarantee Company Limited, Karandaz and the Government of Pakistan through Ministry of Finance.

The ECC also gave approval of the summary of Intelligence Bureau for “Provision of Additional Funds worth 125 million rupees during the Current Financial Year to meet the increasing requirements of Bureau vis-a-vis operations against terrorists and anti-state elements.

Meanwhile, the summary of Finance Division regarding “Approval of Technical Supplementary Grant for Provision of Rupee Cover for Remaining Funds amounting to over 7.6 billion rupees of 1st Tranche of Credit Lines worth 85 Million dollars obtained from the World Bank” was also approved by ECC.

ECP orders re-polling in six polling stations for NA

The Election Commission of Pakistan has directed to conduct re-polling in six polling stations of NA-43, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank on Saturday.

According to ECP, the polling was restrained in these polling stations due to the law and order situation.

Death anniversary of Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar observed

Renowned Muslim League stalwart, a Pakistan movement activist and politician Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar’s sixty-sixth death anniversary was observed on Wednesday.

Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar was born on June 13, 1899 in Peshawar.

He joined All-India Muslim League in 1932 and became a confidante of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar died on this day in 1958 in Karachi.

He was buried at Mazar-e-Quaid near the Tomb of Muhammad Ali Jinnah to acknowledge his services in the cause of Pakistan.

PML-N President, JUI-F Chief discuss post-election situation

President Pakistan Muslim League-N Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad.

They discussed post-election situation.

PML-N leaders Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Ishaq Dar and Malik Ahmad Khan and JU-F leaders Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Rashid Soomro, and Zia-ur-Rehman were also presented in the meeting.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Ijaz-ul-Haq discuss post-election situation

President of PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chief of PML-Zia Ijaz-ul-Haq held a meeting in Islamabad today and discussed the situation in the wake of general elections.

Later talking to the media persons, the two political leaders pointed out that Pakistan is faced with serious challenges and there is a need to move forward collectively to address those challenges including on the economic front. They said we will have to keep in mind the national interest.
