Pak Post earns 14percent additional revenue this year: Senate Committee informed

The Senate Standing Committee on Communications was informed on Monday that Pakistan Postal Service has earned fourteen percent more revenue than its target during this year.

Briefing the Committee, which met in Islamabad with Senator Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai in the chair, Director General Pakistan Post highlighted the plans for expanding NADRA counters, processing and delivering CNICs, and appointment of eighty five GPOs and 20 officers in this connection.

The Committee also addressed the matter of a public petition appealing for the conversion of a project from the BandR Department to National Highway Authority in Balochistan and Punjab.

The Committee after detail discussion deferred the matter till Thursday.

Regarding recruitments in the National Highway Authority, the Committee was apprised that the process was halted due to ban imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in connection with conduct of general elections.

It was further briefed that the NHA had approved the Federal Public Service
Commission of Pakistan as the testing agency for this recruitment. However, the Commission showed inability for conducting of test on the grounds that NHA is an autonomous body.

Crackdown against hoarding continues

The relevant government departments are continuing crackdown against hoarding.

According to the latest statistics, 400 successful operations have been carried out against hoarders across the country since September last year during which 19051.372 metric tons of fertilizer, 2408.629 metric tons of flour and 7635.871 metric tons of sugar have been recovered.

KP: Two killed in rain related incidents

Two persons killed while two women got injured in rain related incidents in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Rescue 1122, a man in Swat and a woman in Lower Dir were killed while two women got injured in District Khyber.

The dead bodies and injured have been shifted to nearly hospitals.

Sindh Excise Dept starts road checking drive against tax default vehicles from today

In Sindh, the excise department has started a road checking campaign against tax default vehicles from today.

The campaign will continue till 7th of next month.

The road checking campaign is aimed at ensuring tax recovery from defaulters.

In a statement, Director General Excise and Taxation Aurangzeb Panhwar said that eight teams have been constituted in Karachi for the campaign and the checking is being carried out at 37 different places in the city.

Upper Dir: Army, district administration clearing roads closed due to heavy snowfall

Pakistan Army and district administration are engaged in clearing Lowari tunnel and closed roads following heavy snowfall in and around Upper Dir.

The district administration and the Pakistan Army also shifted one hundred and forty eight stranded passengers to a safe place. Food and blankets are being provided to the passengers

Snow is being removed from all roads by deployment of heavy machinery.

Due to heavy snowfall, the administration stopped the traffic towards Chitral.

Religious ministry seeks applications for Mujaddid Alf Sani’s Urs

Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has invited applications from those desiring to attend the annual Urs of Hazrat Mujaddid Alf Sani in Sirhind Sharif, India, until the 29th of this month through the new Ziarat form.

According to the ministry, 200 Zaireen will be sent to participate in the Urs. If more applications are received, the selection will be made through a balloting on the 28th of next month.

A week long Urs celebrations will commence in Sirhind Sharif, India from 29th August.

Solangi expresses gratitude to upper house for support to caretaker govt

Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Murtaza Solangi has expressed his gratitude to Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and members of the Upper House for extending every possible support to the government.

He expressed these views while speaking at the House Business Advisory Committee of the Senate, which met in Islamabad on Monday.

The Minister said the prime responsibility of the caretaker setup was to hold free, fair and transparent elections and for this purpose, it needed support of all the political parties and the institutions.

He said the caretaker government tried its level best to maintain cordial relations with all the political parties.

In his remarks, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani said the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs played a key role in running the proceedings of the Senate sessions smoothly.

He thanked the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs for hearing the questions of the Senators with patience and giving answers in detail.

The Chairman Senate
and members of the House Business Advisory Committee of the Senate thanked Murtaza Solangi for his pivotal role in running the affairs of the House amicably.

Pak-Army, Saudi Royal Forces conduct joint military exercise

Pakistan Army and Royal Saudi Land Forces conducted a joint military training exercise at Muzaffargarh Field Firing Range.

Both the forces actively participated in the training which involved Combined Battle PT, Small Scale Operations, Room Clearance, Close Marksmanship and Firing and Repelling. Cobra helicopters also participated in these exercises.

The two forces underwent intensive training to master helicopter mounting and dismounting exercises in the context of terrorism.

These training exercises will provide a unique opportunity for Pakistan Army and the Royal Saudi Land Forces to align their strengths, exchange expertise and enhance their military capabilities.
