Pakistan closely monitoring situation after US exit from Afghanistan: Interior Minister

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed says Pakistan is closely monitoring the situation after US exit from Afghanistan and would not allow the use of its territory against anyone.

Addressing the participants of Security Workshop in Islamabad on Thursday, he said policy of Pakistan is very much clear that Afghan people should decide about their future themselves.

The Interior Minister said stability and sovereign government in Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and it does not want anarchy or civil war there.

Responding to a question, the Minister said that 85 percent fencing work at Pak-Afghan border has been completed.

He said the Interior Ministry is responsible for administrative affairs at Pak-Afghan border and Chaman as well as Torkham borders which are being equipped on modern lines.

President stresses need for effective measures to strengthen country’s cyber security

President Dr Arif Alvi has stressed the need for effective measures to strengthen the country’s cyber security in view of the expeditiously changing situation of the world.

Chairing briefing regarding Air University in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the universities should focus on the emerging technologies to combat the future security challenges.

He said the universities must work for promotion of information technology, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and block chain technology.

The President said steps are being taken to train the youth to increase IT exports in the country.

Measures being taken for affordable digital services: FM

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said the government is constantly striving to improve the people’s quality of life and economic well-being by ensuring availability of accessible, affordable, reliable and high quality digital services.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, he said our government firmly believes in mass adoption of emerging digital technologies and innovative applications to ensure cross- sectoral socio economic development and transformation of governance model, social interaction and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Foreign Minister said Pakistan was one of the first countries to endorse the SDGs. He said our long term development agenda and provincial development strategies are aligned with the SDGs.

In his remarks on the occasion, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin ul Haque said all preparations have been completed for the auction of next generation mobile services spectrum next month.

He said this will bring billions of rupees to the national exchequer.

Govt will not impose complete lockdown during 4th wave of coronavirus: Asad Umar

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar says the government will not impose complete lockdown during the 4th wave of coronavirus pandemic feared to surface during current month.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad today (Thursday), he said during the past waves of coronavirus, the government’s strategy to handle the pandemic and overcome its after-effects has been very successful.

The Minister urged the people to keep on following the standard operating procedure and vaccinate themselves to cope with 4th wave in an effective manner.

He, however, said that in case the ratio of positive cases goes up, the government would opt for smart lockdown as was done during the past phase.

The Minister said National Command and Operation Centre through a letter informed the Kashmir Election Commission about violation of coronavirus SOPs during ongoing election campaigns.
