Pakistan, Somalia reaffirm commitment to deepen ties

Somalian Foreign Minister Abdisaid M Ali called Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday to condemn the dastardly terrorist attack in Peshawar on Friday.

While offering his prayers and sympathies for the victims of Friday’s attack, the Somalian Foreign Minister Ali expressed solidarity with the brotherly people of Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Qureshi thanked Foreign Minister Ali for the call and appreciated his expressions of support for Pakistan.

The two Foreign Ministers also briefly discussed bilateral issues, reaffirming their commitment to further deepen and expand ties between the two countries.

Pakistan calls for diplomatic solution of Ukraine issue

Pakistan has called for de-escalation in Ukraine and underscored the need of a diplomatic solution in accordance with the relevant multilateral agreements, international law, and provisions of the UN Charter.

In a telephonic conversation with his Russian Counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi underlined Pakistan’s concern about the latest situation in Ukraine.

Besides bilateral ties, the two Foreign Ministers discussed the regional situation.

Recalling his recent visit to Russia as part of the Prime Minister’s delegation, Foreign Minister Qureshi stated that the two sides had held wide-ranging talks on key subjects on bilateral agenda and the region including Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Lavrov conveyed deepest condolences over the loss of life in the terrorist attack on a mosque in Peshawar on 4 March 2022 and stressed Russia’s condemnation of terrorism in all forms.

Foreign Minister Lavrov also conveyed that the Russian side would be following-up on the important bilateral matters discussed and that the two sides would continue to work together on promoting shared goals of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also apprised about his recent phone conversations with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Poland, Romania and Hungary and with the High Representative of the European Union, in which he has shared Pakistan’s principled position and stressed the importance of finding a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.

He expressed the hope that the talks initiated between Russia and Ukraine would succeed in finding a diplomatic solution.

Foreign Minister Lavrov shared Russia’s perspective on the situation, referred to the opening of the “humanitarian corridor”, and underlined readiness for the next round of talks with the Ukrainian side.

Foreign Minister Qureshi emphasized that safe and swift return of Pakistani citizens from Ukraine remained the government’s topmost priority and requested for the Russian government’s assistance and facilitation in this regard. The Russian Foreign Minister assured of full support on this account.

The two Ministers agreed to remain in close contact.

PM calls for dialogue, diplomacy for peaceful solution of Russia-Ukraine standoff

Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced to table a bill in the National Assembly for creation of separate province of South Punjab.

Addressing a gathering in Mailsi city of Vehari district on Sunday, he said that the Federal Government will spend additional 500 billion rupees for the development of South Punjab.

He said the government is taking concrete steps to reduce inflation, create job opportunities, and strengthen national economy. The Prime Minister said the Federal Board of Revenue collected record tax last year, which will be spent on the welfare of the masses.

He said the government took measures to provide relief to farmers, which will pave the way for the development of the country. He said government is providing subsidy worth 132 billion rupees on purchase of Urea, while fertilizer is being imported from China to overcome its deficiency.

Talking about Coronavirus, he said the government announced smart lockdown policy during the pandemic to save national economy from adverse impacts of the pandemic.

Talking about recent bomb blast in Peshawar, he said government is committed to overcome terrorism and promote peace and stability in the country. Imran Khan said Pakistan incurred huge loss in terms of finance and infrastructure in the fight against terrorism.

About protest marches and ‘No Confidence Motion’, the Prime Minister expressed resolve that opposition will fail in its effort to table the motion in the Parliament as government enjoys support of all its allies.

The Prime Minister said the government is committed to establish to rule of law and provide speedy and inexpensive justice to masses.

He said the government is working on building dams that would help save Pakistan from global price fluctuation as power would be generated through the hydel system in future.

Talking about recent standoff between Russia and Ukraine, the Prime Minister underlined the need of dialogue and diplomacy for peaceful solution of the conflict.

Earlier, in his address, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said the government has established Southern Punjab Secretariat and allocated separate 33 percent budget for its development.

He said the government has also fixed separate job quota for youth of southern Punjab.

The Chief Minister also announced to establish a university in Vehari, construction of Multan-Vehari road, stadium for Mailsi and several other projects for public welfare.

Govt to steer country out of prevailing challenges: Hammad

Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar has expressed the resolve that government will steer the country out of prevailing challenges by pursing effective economic policies.

Addressing the public gathering in Lahore on Sunday, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan took a decision to provide subsidy on petrol and electricity in the larger public interest.

Hammad Azhar said that Pakistan is pursuing an independent foreign policy and wants to forge friendly relations with all its neighbouring countries.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says the opposition will return to their homes along with their failed movement to dislodge the government and balloon of its hallow claims will become punctured.

In a tweet, he said empty claims of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari proved wooden-horse and of no worth.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Prime Minister Imran Khan will undertake important visits after the conference of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers being held in Islamabad this month.
