SC adjourns hearing of Presidential Reference till tomorrow

A five member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial has adjourned till tomorrow the hearing of Presidential Reference, seeking interpretation of Article 63-A of the constitution.

Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan today submitted his arguments.

Stability in Afghanistan critical for prosperity of South Asia, wider world: FM

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says stability in Afghanistan is a critical for prosperity of South Asia and the wider world.

In his remarks at a seminar in Islamabad on Monday, he said Afghanistan must not be seen through a regional prism, but as a shared and collective responsibility.

The Minister said instability in Afghanistan will have negative consequences for the entire world.

He said failure is not an option. If the world community fails Afghanistan yet again, it will result in a fresh influx of refugees, enhanced space for terrorism and a rise in drug trafficking.

The Foreign Minister said if the wheels of the economy remain jammed, the gains can be reversed. We must not allow that to happen again.

He said Pakistan has always advocated consistent engagement with Afghanistan. At this critical juncture, the importance of delinking humanitarian assistance from political considerations cannot be overstated.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan believes that continued engagement between the interim Afghan government and the international community would help ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for Afghanistan.

No confidence motion against PM is conspiracy: Fawad

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has said the no confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan is a conspiracy against the people of this country.

Talking to the media persons in Islamabad on Monday, he said a person sitting in London and the international establishment are behind this conspiracy.

He said yesterday’s gathering of PTI in the capital was historic. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address alluded to the international conspiracy and with the passage of time, more details about it will be brought to the fore.

Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said the interpretation of Article 63-A of the constitution is important, hoping the Supreme Court’s verdict in Presidential Reference will put an end to horse trading to strengthen the parliamentary democracy in the country.

In his remarks, Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar said the people gave their verdict against conscience selling yesterday by turning up in large numbers in the PTI’s public gathering.

He said it is the hallmark of the PML (N) to attack the institutions.

Shahbaz Sharif tables no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan in NA

Leader of Opposition Shahbaz Sharif tabled a no-confidence resolution against Prime Minister Imran Khan. One hundred and sixty one members of the House voted in favour of the no-confidence resolution.

Just after tabling of the resolution, the Chair announced to hold detailed discussion on the resolution as per rules of business and procedure of the House. He adjourned the House to meet again on Thursday at 4 PM for detailed discussion.

Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary on Finance Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi introduced “The Constitution (26th Amendment) Bill, 2022” in the House.
