Vantage launches UK liquidity service for institutional traders

Promote education on diabetes for a healthier tomorrow

ISA awareness and educational campaign for World Diabetes Day 2022

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Nov. 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, the International Sweeteners Association (ISA) is delighted to renew its support to World Diabetes Day (WDD) for the eleventh consecutive year, joining the call to action from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to highlight the need for better access to quality diabetes education to protect tomorrow.1

Promoting better access to diabetes education
More than half a billion people are currently living with diabetes worldwide and millions more are at risk of developing diabetes. One in two people with diabetes don’t know they have the disease and remain undiagnosed. Importantly also, it is predicted that by 2030 the number of adults living with diabetes will rise to 643 million, and to 784 million by 2045.2 Therefore, people living with diabetes need access to ongoing diabetes education, including on nutrition, to understand their condition and carry out the daily self-care essential to staying healthy and avoiding complications.

Join the workshop organised by the Mexican Diabetes Federation
Healthcare professionals are invited to join the workshop organised on 23rd November 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00pm, Mexico City time (midnight to 2:00am CET on 24th November), by the Mexican Diabetes Federation (Federación Mexicana de Diabetes – FMD) and supported by the ISA on the theme ‘Uses and benefits of low/no calorie sweeteners’. Education on low/no calorie sweeteners can help people living with diabetes: ISA campaign for WDD 2022
Both health professionals and people living with diabetes need to have better access to nutrition education in diabetes, including about the role of low/no calorie sweeteners in diabetes control.

Low/no calorie sweeteners offer people with diabetes broader food choices by providing the pleasure of sweet taste without affecting blood glucose control.3 Studies show that unlike carbohydrates, low/no calorie sweeteners do not raise blood sugar level,4,5 and that people with diabetes can use them safely. This is also recognised by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) which authorised the health claim that low/no calorie sweeteners used as a replacement for sugars induce a lower blood sugar rise after consumption compared to sugar-containing foods and drinks.6

The ISA website provides numerous educational materials on low/no calorie sweeteners’ role in diabetes, including recordings of previous webinars and scientific events, as well as various resources for healthcare professionals that have been developed with the aim to provide evidence-based scientific information on the safety, use, role and benefits of low/no calorie sweeteners, such as the infographic: ‘Low/no calorie sweeteners in diabetes’ and the media factsheet ‘Diabetes and Blood Sugar Control with Low/no Calorie Sweeteners’.

FM Bilawal inaugurates 11th edition of Defence Exhibition-IDEAS 2022

The 11th edition of Defence Exhibition-IDEAS 2022 commenced at Expo Center in Karachi on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the exhibition.

Federal Minister for Defence production Muhammad Israr Tareen, Sindh Chief Minster Syed Murad Ali Shah and high civil and military official are attending the inaugural ceremony.

Our Karachi correspondent Altaf Pirzado reports that the exhibition will continue till Friday in which around three hundred exhibitors from thirty two countries will display their latest and innovative products whereas over five hundred national and international delegates are taking part in the exhibition.

Apart from the six halls of the expo centre, three marquees have also been set up, one of which has been named after Kashmir.

A Karachi Show will also be held on November Thursday at Nishan-e-Pakistan on the beach for the citizens.

High-level defence delegations of friendly countries are also participating in the IDEAS-2022.

Pak Envoy terms Pakistani diaspora in US as national asset

Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan has termed Pakistani diaspora in the United States as national asset and equal partner in Pakistan’s socio economic development.

He said this while addressing prominent members of Pakistani American community on his first official visit to Los Angeles.

The event was organized by Council of Pakistan, a non-profit community organization promoting interests of Pakistan and Pakistani Americans in the United States.

Lauding the exceptional achievements of the Pakistani Americans in the U.S, particularly in California, he said that they have made both Pakistan and the U.S. proud with their innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and acted as a strong bridge between the two countries. Even if everything else fails, he added, this bond would not.

The Ambassador noted that recently there had been positive developments in Pakistan-US relations and the leadership of the two countries have decided to collaborate more closely in the economic realm encompassing trade, investment, alternate energy, health, agriculture and tech industry.

He underscored that the momentum in the bilateral relations provided a window of opportunity to investors to strengthen economic partnerships between the two countries. In this regard, he added, that Pakistani diaspora can play an important role by scaling up their businesses in Pakistan. He also urged them to play their role in increasing exports of IT products and services from Pakistan to the U.S. He noted that despite odds, trade volume between the two countries is growing as Pakistan’s exports to the U.S. jumped from 7 billion dollars to 9 billion last year.

Ambassador Khan also commended the active role of the Pakistani community in recently concluded congressional election in which they supported candidates from both sides and one of the prominent Pakistanis for the first time contested elections for the US. House of Representatives from a key district of California. He also thanked the community members for providing 4.7 million dollars for Covid-19 vaccines to Pakistan and contributing to flood relief efforts by donating 1.5 million dollars, out of which 1 million dollar had already been remitted to Pakistan.

The Ambassador also underlined the high priority attached by the Government of Pakistan to the welfare of the overseas Pakistanis. He said that the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington D.C. and its four Consulates in Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Chicago remain committed to provide assistance to the Pakistani community in the United States.

Speaking on the occasion, other leaders of the Council of Pakistan said that the organization is working to build strong relations between Pakistan and the United States. They also briefed on various initiatives taken by the Council bring investment into Pakistan.

Later, Ambassador Masood Khan interacted with a group of influential Pakistani American businessmen and entrepreneurs. On the occasion, the Ambassador highlighted the steps taken by the Government to improve business and investment climate in Pakistan, including liberalization of regulatory regimes, streamlining taxation and facilitating repatriation of funds. He noted that last year the US direct investment in Pakistan was 257 million of Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan, while 203 million dollars in profits had been repatriated.

He said that Pakistan, despite some challenges, is emerging as an economic hub in the region. Pakistani Americans can play an important role in building confidence in Pakistan’s economy by investing in key areas including IT, alternative energy, and agriculture, manufacturing and healthcare.

The Ambassador also urged them to further strengthen Pakistan-U.S. relations by working closely with the U.S. Administration, Congress and think tanks.

PM constitutes committee to consider complaints against Urdu Film ‘JOYLAND’

The Prime Minister, in response to complaints received against Urdu Feature Film “JOYLAND,” constituted an eight-member committee under the Chairmanship of Federal Minister Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The Committee was directed to consider the complaints against the said film being contrary to social norms.

The Committee met in Islamabad on Tuesday; and after thorough deliberations, it concluded that Central Board of Film Censors should conduct a FULL BOARD REVIEW immediately to take final decision of its suitability for screening.
