BISP will soon launch survey to register more flood-hit families: Kundi

Benazir Income Support Program will launch a dynamic survey from 15th of next month to register more deserving families affected recently by devastating floods.

This was stated by Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Faisal Karim Kundi at a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday.

He said an MOU in this regard has been signed with NADRA.

The Special Assistant said at present the beneficiaries of BISP stand at 8.2 million which are estimated to rise to around nine million after this survey.

Faisal Karim Kundi said the BISP has transparently extended financial assistance of twenty five thousand rupees to each flood affected family.

COAS pays farewell visit to various setups of Army Medical Corps

As part of farewell visits, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited various setups of Army Medical Corps on Saturday.

Surgeon General Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Nigar Johar accompanied COAS during the visit.

The COAS visited Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi and was briefed by Commandant CMH Major General Muhammad Mohsin Qureshi regarding state of the art newly up graded healthcare facilities.

The COAS was briefed that medical care has been planned as per international best practices and patient care is the focus of hospital administration. Special counters have been established for facilitating civilian/ non entitled patients as well. Efforts are being made to provide patient friendly environment and provide allied facilities for patients’ attendants.

The Army Chief was also shown newly established control room to impart training to doctors through live surgery process in Academic Centre, designed and established to facilitate medical students for better understanding of surgical procedures.

The COAS appreciated the efforts of Army Medical Corps which is providing quality health care and state of the art rehabilitation services to members of the armed forces, their families and civilian patients. Amongst other facilities, Shuhada Families and veterans’ Medical facilitation Centre provides disruption free basic healthcare facilities including blood sampling, medicines and checkup to families of martyrs and senior veterans up to the age of 75 years. The up graded Pharmacy is now entertaining 3000 patients daily.

COAS also laid the foundation stone of new training block of Armed Forces Post Graduate Institute.

Later COAS visited newly constructed Soldiers’ guestrooms, newly established Army Help Centre and upgraded facilities of Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa appreciated the doctors and healthcare professionals of AMC for their selfless devotion to duty and monumental work. Lauding the immense improvements being incorporated in healthcare infrastructure COAS said that quality healthcare for soldiers and their families is a cardinal feature of Army’s welfare regime and critical for morale of troops.

Finance Minister rejects rumors about Pakistan being on verge of default

Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has categorically dismissed rumours about failure in payment of one billion dollars against Sukuk bonds which will mature on 5th of next month.

In a televised statement on Saturday, the Finance Minister said Pakistan will not default and will meet its upcoming one billion dollar bond payments.

He said Pakistan never defaulted before and we will not even be close to default.

Ishaq Dar said the bond will be paid and even the upcoming payments in the next year.

He said rumors are being spread for political purpose and these people should refrain from speculations and irresponsible statements.

Talking about the fuel reserves in the country, he said Pakistan has enough reserves of petrol and diesel and speculations on the issue are baseless.

Ishaq Dar urged the people to think for Pakistan beyond their political affiliations and avoid speculations.

Mufti Rafi Usmani passes away in Karachi

Renowned religious scholar Mufti Rafi Usmani has passed away in Karachi after protracted illness.

He was 88.

Born in 1936, Muhammad Rafi Usmani was a religious scholar, jurist and author who served as President of Darul Uloom Karachi.

He authored many books including Ahkam-e-Zakat, Islam Main Aurat Ki Hukmrani and Nawadir al-Fiqh.

President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of noted Islamic scholar and President of Darul Uloom Karachi Mufti Rafi Usmani.

In their separate condolence messages, they prayed for high ranks of the departed soul in Jannah and for the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

They also paid tribute to the services of late Rafi Usmani for Islam and Pakistan.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb have also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mufti Rafi Usmani and prayed for high ranks of the departed soul in Jannah.

Pervaiz Elahi chairs meeting of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that one window counters have been made functional at Revenue Department, NADRA and Lahore Development Authority to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.

He stated this while chairing a meeting in Lahore on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said an Act has also been passed to extend support to overseas Pakistanis.
