Establishment of loss & damage fund an investment in climate justice: Sherry

Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman says establishment of a loss and damage fund is an investment in climate justice.

Addressing the G77 meeting at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, she termed establishment of the fund a positive milestone in fight against climate change.

The Minister expressed hope that developing countries will be provided technical assistance to avert and minimize the impact of climate change.

She expressed concern over the lack of progress on the deficit and financing the formulation and implementation of national adaptation plans.

She said these are crucial tools for countries struggling to build resilience against climate stress.

Sherry Rehman reiterated that G77 and China will continue to support the climate change negotiation process in forging common ground for reclaiming our planet for our future generations.

Establishment of ‘Loss & Damage Fund’ major win for Pakistan: FM

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund and financial arrangements to address the issue of climate justice is a major win for Pakistan and all of the developing world.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, he said, the monumental achievement for climate justice and G77 led by Pakistan, the COP27 has successfully concluded with loss and damage as part of the agenda including a fund and financial arrangements to address this issue.

The Foreign Minister recalled that the Group of 77, chaired by him at the UN, unanimously adopted Pakistan’s proposal to demand loss and damage be part of the COP27 agenda.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said his interactions with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry both in Egypt and over the phone in which he requested support for G77, and demanded the inclusion of financial arrangements to tackle loss and damage which led to a compromise.

He paid special gratitude to all members of G-77 and China for their continued support and trust in Pakistan’s leadership.

Pakistan not facing any risk of default: Ahsan

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said Pakistan is not facing any danger of going to default and PTI is spreading false propaganda over country’s default risk.

Addressing the Pakistani community in Jeddah, he said the country has adopted a path of stability and saved it from going to default. He said the news about Pakistan’s default risk is based on a malicious campaign initiated by the PTI which has no reality. He said the incumbent government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif succeeded in removing Pakistan from the gray list.

Highlighting the importance of relationships between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Minister we want to establish CPEC-style economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

He further said that overseas based in Saudi Arabia are a strategic partner of Pakistan and their efforts are commendable which helps Pakistan to promote their narrative. He also announced that a death insurance scheme will be introduced soon for overseas Pakistanis to provide support to their families in case of accidental death.

Ahsan Iqbal said government supports the right of overseas Pakistanis to vote, but it should be done without compromising the sanctity and security of the electoral process. He said there is no secure Internet-based voting system in use in the world yet. However, various proposals are under consideration, including the proposal to give representation to overseas Pakistanis through specific seats in Parliament.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the manifestation of excellent climate diplomacy by Pakistan led by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that resulted in the establishment of ‘Damage and Loss’ Fund at the COP-27 summit.

In a tweet on Sunday, the Prime Minister said all teams who worked with the Foreign Minister in this regard deserve appreciation as Pakistan has succeeded in getting accepted its demand for ‘Loss and Damage’ fund as Chair of G-77 plus China.

Passenger train service b/w Balochistan & other provinces restores today

Passenger train service between Balochistan and other provinces is restoring from today (Sunday).

In this regard, Jaffar Khan Jamali Express train will resume its journey from Mach station to Peshawar.

The rail service had been suspended about four months ago after a bridge collapsed due to heavy rains and floods in Hirok area of Bolan.
